Emulation
Guides on emulating older games

A completely realistic winter wonderland featuring six action-packed events; Bobsled, Ski Jump, Figure Skating, Free-Style Skating, Hot Dog Aerials and the Biathlon.

Probably this game runs only with the Mac Emulator "Gemulator 2000" or with a real Mac Classic. It may also run under certain configurations of M.E.S.S.

A manual is included, the game is not Mac OS 7 compatible.

May 8, 2020 UPDATE: Added a zipped 400K DSK image that has the correct System and Finder to be bootable on Macs that support this game, such as the Macintosh 512K (64K ROMs are ok). I assembled this DSK image primarily using content from an original disk I purchased back in 1985, but I also used the main application file and Biathlon file from the 1.59MB IMG that was uploaded back in 2009. Biathlon was damaged on my disk, and the app on the 1.59 IMG is required to avoid an "unauthorized" error dialog. This DSK image works fine when booted from a FloppyEMU. You can also use Copy II Mac 7.0 to make a Sector copy of the DSK image from your FloppyEMU to a real 400K floppy. The only thing that doesn't yet work is Mini vMac compatibility. It freezes at the main splash screen.

September 27th 2020 UPDATE: Winter Games works on Mini vMac 37 alpha (version 200926 or later).

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k

Works with FloppyEMU or a real 400K disk, and Mini vMac (37 alpha 200926 or later).

I played this game on a classic with 4MB RAM, but it didn’t work with system 6 or 7, it had to boot from its own disk.

Winter Games.dsk runs great using FloppyEmu on an upgraded 128K and a 1987 SE.

Is a boot disk included with the game?

Oh so that's a shame.

@Ovi: It may be a case of OS 6.0.8 being "too new" for this game from 1985. Some very early Mac games didn't survive running on newer OS's or newer Mac models.

So, unfortunately, the game stops after launch. I have a real Macintosh Classic 4 megabytes of RAM and OS 6.0.8

Don't think, but probably...

too much

MB of RAM, in case a game expects to find a smaller amount of.

I updated the entry with my findings. It does run under M.e.s.s. ( at least in the older version I tried, when copied to a smaller floppy disk. And I used system 3.0 )

Try earlier OS versions, I guess. It's from 1985.

Nope, I can't get it to run either. I hear the sound pop, but that's about it.

I got problems running the game. I can't get past the opening screen. I get the same result with different versions of system 6. Any suggestions?
