Guides on emulating older games

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is a computer game released by Blizzard Entertainment on July 3, 2002. It is a real-time strategy computer game, the second sequel to Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and the third game set in the Warcraft universe. Reign of Chaos details the second invasion of the Burning Legion and the origins of the Scourge.

The game proved to be one of the most anticipated and popular computer game releases ever, with 4.5 million units shipped to retail stores and over one million units sold within a month. Warcraft III won many awards including "Game of the Year" from more than six different publications.

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne is an expansion pack released the following year.

You need a unique/unused/unregistered key if you want to play on Battlenet.
So use of these CDs would most likely be limited to stand alone games.
I'm not sure if computer to computer (ie multiplayer) networked games check for unique keys or not.
Works through 10.6.8 as long as Rosetta is installed.
Installation keys are on the screenshots of the CD cases.
ROC can be installed and played using the included DMG file.
I would recommend a G4 Tower as a minimum machine for happy game playing.

10th download is This single player map for warcraft 3. Put in your map folder to play this map.

Last download is a playable full install of both games with 1.26 updates applied.

Architecture: PPC

Thanks for letting me know, I think I figured it out, as I could run the patch on OS X(I was trying to update Warcraft III it on OS 9.2.2, which I had installed form my disc copy). I can't seem to be able to patch it from OS X onto a version of Warcraft III that had been installed in Classic (my iBook is currently set up to dual boot).

So if I want to run 1.26a on my iBook I need to install the game in OS X and update it in OS X right?

warcraft III 1.26a is universal. The game works in os x only when update to 1.26a. I tested in mac os x 10.4.11 and mac os x 10.5.8. Don't run the update on mac os 9.2.2 because the game will not work on mac os 9.2.2. If you want the game on mac os 9.2.2 run the installer from toast CD and run the game on mac os 9.2.2 but don't update to 1.26a.

This patch is for Mac only. Patches for windows can be found online at various PC gamer sites.
What OS are you trying to run this under? 9.2.2 or OSX?

Well, if you didn't use Archive Utility on the main programs I would start from scratch and see if your results are different.

Yep, now I can execute the patch, but it says an Archive is corrupted and it cant install. I tried it with the TFT and ROC patches, neither works. Is there any chance anyone has an installed and patched Warcraft III folder they could share?

unzip with MacOSX decompress (Applications/Utilities/Archive Utility).

set the executable bit in a shell. on the other hand is it possible that this file belongs into the package in the macos folder itself?

Hi, can someone help me out, the Patch won't extract as an executable. I've unzipped it both on my main pc and my iBook G3, and it extracts as a plain text file and can't be run. I'd like to be able to get my copy of Warcraft III up to 1.26.

Blizzard has released complete installers for both Diablo II and Warcraft III (including the expansion sets).
Recommended Mac OS is either 10.10 (Yosemite) or 10.11 (El Capitan).
If you have a Blizzard account and registered copies of either you can login to your account, scroll down to Classic Games (remember to copy your serial number) and get a link to the new downloads. If you wish to play any of your old single game characters remember to make a copy of your SAVE folder. Diablo II still has a maximum resolution of 800x600. A valid serial number is required for installation (and of course for BattleNet play). New serial numbers can be purchased.

@sfp1954, there is working DosBox port of Diablo on Mac already (single app), and I believe there is a HD port of Diablo II using DosBox-3dfx wrapper if I recall correctly?!

Obviously for modern Intel Macs...

Try this. If it works, I will put it on the page.

Does anyone know where I can find a No CD crack for this so I don't need to leave the image mounted?

Actually, Blizzard gives infos here :

And here for Diablo II :

For StarCraft, the page will be updated, but, we can download PC version (US & GB) which contains both versions for windows and PPC Mac... And so, I hope just there won't be problems with these posts here.

Blizzard is not very clear. I don't know if they will retire the old Mac OS X installer. The new installers for Yosemite & El Capitan are not perfect for the moment. And Mac Users must reinstall Diablo II to update then with the last patch. But, they are in transition... Just wait and see, then.

Show me where you can actually buy it for Mac.
The Blizzard page currently says $9.99 for PC only.

Although it appears they are trying to hire programmers to get both Diablo II and Warcraft III running on newer Macs. But the versions of Diablo II, Starcraft and Warcraft III for PPCs will never be for sale again (and won't run on an OSX above 10.7).

This game is still for sale, but for Intel Mac (Yosemite & El Capitan). For Diablo II and StarCraft, it will be the same. I don't know if Blizzard will approve that. But thanks for the posts.

Of the Warcraft Series (including World of Warcraft) this was my least favorite.
I found the interface a little too unwieldy and after spending years in the top down world of Warcraft I and II I had difficulty with the viewing perspective.
I also didn't like the fact that you had to play the campaigns in order.
If you got stuck somewhere in the Human Campaign you were kind of stuck period.

It seems like Blizzard learned from this though as I really enjoy WOW.

The updates are Mac only.
