This game works with: SheepShaver, Basilisk II, Mini vMac II

The extremely rare (Multimedia Grand Prix-winning) first game by Masaya Matsuura-- a Macintosh-only first-person point-and-click adventure. It came out on April 23, 1993-- five days before the release of The 7th Guest and five months before Myst's release! (It was even shown at an exhibition in 1992, a year before Journeyman Project.)

The game's interface is all in English, but all dialogue is written in Japanese.

The original untampered game is still unable to run correctly on SheepShaver, Basilisk II or Mini vMac II due to limitations in Audio CD playback. In the original game set-up, music from the Audio CD partition plays in-game. Please download the hacked version to run it, if you are not running on real vintage Mac hardware.

03/13/19 UPDATE: Translation finished and completely implemented! Will be uploaded soon.

It works best on Basilisk II running Mac OS 7 and Mini vMac II running System 6.0.7 or 6.0.8-- the frame rate on SheepShaver is worse, and audio delay always happens.

Description from manual:

Welcome to PSY•S City. This CD-ROM is an adventure game software designed based on the world of the pop music group PSY•S, and can be enjoyed by the people of all generations. Enjoy the adventurous heart-searching journey in PSY•S City full of poetry, graphic and music.

This story starts in the heaven city up above PSY•S City. Residents of the heaven city are the angels who are sent to guard the earth. One day, a hasty angel, so inadvertently dropped the important Seven Hearts the govern the night. One of the seven, the Purple Heart has accidentally fallen into your hands. At the appeal of the Purple Heart, you have so kindly decided to go on an adventurous journey to seek for the rest of the lost hearts in order to retrieve the night in PSY•S city. However, getting all the hearts back is not good enough to bring back the night to the city. You have to put all the collected hearts in the mailbox that connects PSY•S City and the heaven city and return them to the angels. But where is the mailbox? In the course of the journey, you will find it. A touching last scene is waiting for you who have safely accomplished the task.

Heehee, the game from late 2015 to late 2016 was me working on translating and implementing! : )

Woah! Sorry, everyone-- yes, I DID get back in December 2018. : ) And I JUST got the final piece necessary to complete my translation! And yes, that means music is translated and EVERYTHING. (You can listen to my sister singing the themesong here: If anyone would like to talk to me about it, just e-mail me at legotronn2 at gmail. : )

What I'm gathering from other sources (YouTube and... comments from YouTube) is that the original uploader who happens to be one of the fellows behind that translation project, that they've been away since the end of 2016.

Doesn't quite explain the gap from late 2015 to then, but then we are all busy with life circumstances. Especially for uncompensated efforts.

He should be getting back soon? Perhaps he'll have something to say about the translation effort once he is.

I'm also interested in the translation. Though it has been quite a few years.

I suppose anybody with Director 3.1.x could modify the source files and do a translation of their own, if the effort discussed below happened to stall out.

@HomeStarRunnerTron Did you ever finish this? Would love to play it in English!

Wow how did I not notice this before?

It really is amazing how many unknown Japanese computer games are out there waiting to be uncovered.

Just so everyone's aware, I'm nearing completion on an English translation of the game. Took quite a bit of money to hire a translator, so... fingers crossed! : )

I have reconstructed a bin/cue image of the CD based on the 2nd and 4th external download images, and have uploaded to the internal server. The iso in the 2nd external DL is not an exact copy of the game partition of the original CD. It contains Desktop DBs dated 23rd May 2015. It also contains an extraneous item called TheVolumeSettingFolder which should not be present (I have deleted it from the copy I used for the bin/cue). For the information of anyone wanting to make an exact image of the game partition of a mixed mode CD, all you need to do is to eject the audio partition after you insert the original CD and then use Toast to create an image of the remaining game partition (and lock the newly created image immediately before mounting it)

Alright, I'm on it. That intro gets a bit poetic, but I'll do my best. Wink

Having help would be unbelievable. I can actually edit all the graphics and sounds in the game, so anything you're able to translate can actually be implemented. Here's three things that desperately need a little elucidation. 1) The intro narration , 2) this fortune teller monologue and 3) Any of the six "Clue" tracks in the Audio CD MP3s provided. Since, you know, they're sung in Japanese, they don't really help you find anything you're supposed if you can't understand what they're singing.

I can do a bit of Japanese if you need some help.

--> use Windows <-----

Yes, there are some things that can only be done (or best done) on Windows. That is the only time I use Windows.

I am traveling at the moment and cannot contribute much until after next week.

*makes a face* You and Mrdav use Windows? Kind of ironic, considering the title of this website. If anyone knows how to do it on a Mac, that'd be much appreciated. Anyway, in a few hours, I should upload a completely playable version of the game! I'm almost done recoding it. EDIT: Aaaand donezo for now.

I made them with Toast in the past, but they were not very reliable, so I switched over to UltraISO on Windows for BIN/CUE images, with guidance of Mrdav.

Sorry, I don't know how to make one on a Mac either. ImgBurn and UltraISO are popular Windows options.

No prob, this is first time since, like, 2008 that there's been a bid for this game.

I would, but, uh... I'm not quite sure the best way to go about that. Does Toast make BIN/CUEs?

Fantastic, thanks for this!

Would you be willing to create a BIN/CUE image of the CD?
