This game works with: SheepShaver,

A first-person shooter with role-playing elements. You must stop an artificial intelligence gone mad before she destroys all major cities on Earth and turns the population into mutants.

The manual includes a ten-minute tutorial to ease you into the controls. Better read it.

Unofficial Hint Book
Strategies & Secrets (External Download — Mega.Nz)

(also available in the third manual download above)

As of 2015, company Night Dive Studios has acquired full rights to the System Shock franchise. Thus, this page no longer has to comply with the EA copyright infringements take down.

Architecture: PPC

Minimum System Requirements:

Only runs in 256 colors.
Requires QuickTime player.

It's compatible with Classic and probably with other emulators as well.

You will need a PowerPC to build the Mac version of System Shock...
You also need Metrowerks CodeWarrior 10 Tools to build the project and Stuffit Expander to unpack the project files and source code.
The game was initially built with an older version of CodeWarrior, but we tested it with CW 10 Gold Tools (IDE 1.7) and it was able to build a working executable. Things you will need:

A PowerMac or an emulator like SheepShaver;
CodeWarrior for PowerPC (CW 10 Gold Tools works)
The original Mac System Shock data.

I have uploaded a complete bin/cue disc image made from an original CD

by Daxeria - 2017, May 20 - 2:12pm

a full image of the game CD would be preferable (.iso/.toast or .bincue if Audio tracks are on the CD)

The manual says there are three bonus audio tracks on the CD, which our image lacks. Also, the mounted image shows a modification date of September 2014. We would definitely appreciate a fresh, complete bin/cue image from anyone who can provide one.

You can also get System Shock Classic off Steam which has a Mac version. Hopefully the enhanced version gets a Mac port soon as I think that's the ultimate version of the original game.

If anyones interested, a friend of mine wrote an article on how to get System Shock running on modern Macs:
He used the DOS version however.

That would be be awesome. But I'd be happy with a mac port of the enhanced version available to pc gamers at GOG

@HughMungus I'm not sure. Macs have always been less common so it's not that surprising if/when mod developers don't consider us when they make their mods. For example, there's an open source rebuild of the original Fallout's engine, called SFall, that allows the game to run on modern versions of Windows. However, It wont work on Mac (at least not without WINE), despite the fact that the first two Fallout games where also released on Mac. Hopefully Night Dive Studios does indeed release the engine source to System Shock 1, then we can add what ever we want to it.

You know thinking about the line "Night Dive Studios announced that the recovered source code of the game will be released to the game's community", could that mean we'll finally be able to play this game without emulation? That'll be awesome for my G5 with Leopard, especially since Leopard doesn't support Classic mode & SheepShaver crashes on PowerPC.

If you really re-upload this game, a full image of the game CD would be preferable (.iso/.toast or .bincue if Audio tracks are on the CD). Smile

Read the last line. It clearly states "Since then, Night Dive Studios also acquired the rights to System Shock, releasing an enhanced version of the game in September 2015. Kick has reported they have acquired full rights to the series since then." which means EA doesn't own sh*t. Also it states under "Sequel" that although EA did reregister the trademark in 2006, "Electronic Arts did not confirm a new title in the series and allowed the System Shock trademark registration to lapse.....EA had not shown interest in [Ken Levine's] own proposal for a sequel, and was not optimistic with regards to their abilities." The System Shock 1 page also states "Night Dive Studios announced that the recovered source code of the game will be released to the game's community."
To sun it up, EA doesn't own it anymore and can go f*ck them selves if they have a problem.
You can double check if you want & call a forum meeting, but I'm pretty sure we can reupload it.

@ 3371-Alpha, your link is pointing to System Shock 2 not System Shock 1. The legal challenge did not extend to this version. EA still owns the name "System Shock". See also: The lost history of System Shock & EA files trademark on "System Shock".

According to the System Shock 2 wikipedia page (here: at the bottom where it says "Intellectual property debacle and re-release"), EA no longer owns the copy right to the System Shock series. Can someone please reupload the first game. And EA, if you have a problem with this can you blow it out your @$$.

For anyone able to find this absolute pearl in the deeps of the NET (IT is there, only a little disguised...) I suggest some installation procedures (I run it perfectly on a G3 800mhz, os 9.2):
Be sure to have quicktime v.3 (found on this fantastic site... thanks for all MacGarden..!). Previous version misses the "technology" I think, later version has problems with "Sound Manager" (a quicktime plugin), so you'll not be able to listen to the (COOL) musics. If you have a later version of QT installed (in 9.2 standard is QT 5), download the QT 5.5 appropriate language package, run the installer -> select custom install -> remove. If "sound manager" extension is still present in the Extensions folder, delete it. Then install QT 3.0, and let SHODAN shocks your system!

does anyone know of a place that you can download ss1 on the mac or could someone just post it on mac garden again and try to dodge EA if they bitch again any help would be much obliged.

Not possible.

Like HOTU did in the past, adding something like "Ask the publisher to sell it to you" to the description, is the best option.

This file has the same stuff as the 200 MB file (330 MB when expanded) available over Le Grenier du Mac. The difference lies in the simple fact that the Grenier du Mac file is a CD image with with hundreds of unused megabytes. Mine's a Disk Copy image with only 1.7 MB of unused space and it's two-thirds smaller. Smile

Here's the walkthrough for this amazing game:
