Guides on emulating older games

The Gold Edition includes both Rome: Total War and the expansion Barbarian Invasion.

Play as one of three great Roman families, whose thirst for power will stop at nothing. You must use military genius to build an empire that stretches across Europe and Africa. Finally march on Rome to seize control of the greatest empire in the world. Then, in Barbarian Invasion, either defend it or lead a Barbarian horde and bring the once mighty empire to its knees. (From the cover)

Downloads 1 - 2 are the parts of a zipped archive of the game DVD with the large invisible SafeDisc file omitted. To reassemble the complete disc image, place all the parts in one folder, then drag the .001 file to The Unarchiver. This will join the parts and unzip the archive.

This is version 1.2 which is a Universal Binary, released in 2010.

The download is a cracked version. Do not make any updates to the game if an update is offered. If you update the game you will not be able to play it. In the opening options screen, ignore the serial number entry and click Play. Use the About option to select Rome or the expansion to play.

Eventually, subject to the 10 year rule, versions 1.3 (released 2013, requiring Mac OS X 10.7) and 1.4.2 (released 2014, requiring Mac OS X 10.8.5) will be uploaded. We are also still missing 1.0 which is Intel-only.

The manual, ReadMe and FAQ can be accessed from within the game.

Actually one of the very last mainstream powerpc games! Runs great on a quad G5 with a Geforce 7800 GTX 512 Mb. Thanks for the upload!

Awesome upload, many thanks for that! I bought the game back when it came out and while it was fun, I spent way more hours with some of the fan-made mods. I think one of them was named "Lord of the Rings: The Third Age" that was an amazing total conversion of the game. They could have sold that one separately. Suddenly it was Total War mechanics but a very well made Lord of the Rings scenario. I fondly remember how my Rohan people fiercly defended their small homestead against hordes of orcs at the gates. It was an amazing experience.

Coming to think of it, I believe I ran the Windows version on Bootstrap. Does anyone happen to know if mods work with the Mac version too?
