Guides on emulating older games

Ripper is an interactive FMV adventure that is played out in the New York of 2040. Brutal killings reminiscent of Jack the Ripper soon get personal and you, crime reporter Jack Quinlan, must solve the mystery. Solve puzzles and react quickly in combat settings to survive. There are 4 possible endings, and 3 hours of video footage.

The game has a cast that includes celebrities such as Christopher Walken, Karen Allen, Burgess Meredith and John Rhys-Davies. It also featured the hit Blue Öyster Cult song "(Don't Fear) The Reaper". There is no definite canonical answer on who the villain of the game is, since this is decided by the game at random, out of four main characters. A limited number of the clues and puzzles, plus a single line of dialogue in the ending, change according to the villain's identity. (Adapted from MobyGames and Wikipedia)

Toast images, compressed with StuffIt 5.5

The Mac Gamer's Ledge review states that the game's default memory allocation is far too small to run it smoothly. "As soon as the 'system error 1' crash occurred when I first tried to save the game (it did get saved, surprisingly enough), I rushed to the 'Get Info' section and boosted the preferred size with as much RAM as I could. If you have RAM to spare, give it to 'Ripper' and let her rip."

Architecture: 68k PPC

PowerPC or 68040
6.5 MB free RAM
Not compatible with virtual memory or RAM Doubler

My copy of the Disc 2 archive is uncompresses OK. So I downloaded from here and tested that...and it is corrupted. So something happened during the original upload. This has never happened to me before...during download, yes, but not the reverse.

I am re-uploading Disc 2

EDIT: I have now made a NEW LINK to DIsc 2

I find Stuffit, any version to be at times unreliable, some versions better than others. Version 5.5 is one of the better ones but even so, it pays to test the .sit before uploading or archiving it for posterity. IMHO. I haven't DL'd the Ripper disks, just adding that I have had the rare failure with Stuffit archives even though there appeared to be success with the compression.

I get Stuffit 5.5 and Stuffit 7.03 choke on the second file too. Sometimes it just does this with .toast images, heppened to my uploads more than once, so I ususually (used to) upload them uncompressed. This may be the part of the cause, all the times it happened to me, the (corrupted) compressed disk images were only slightly smaller than the uncompressed disk image - and by slightly I mean less than 1MB smaller on a 650MB toast disk image. Tropico MM is one I remember it happening on, Shivers too and maybe some iMac G4 restore discs, and In Memorium and maybe the second Gabriel Knight game.
You may convince yourself by uncompressing your copy of the stuffed file.
For me, the Ripper_2.toast.sit file is 645.5MB and Stuffit bombs out when the uncompressed file reaches about 481.9MB.
I'll try another download, just in case.

The archive is fine. There have been 6 downloads of disk 2 so far and no one else has reported a problem. I suggest that you try another application to uncompress the archive (another version of stuffit or unarchiver...You sometimes get an error when using a modern version of stuffit on a stuffit 5.5 archive). If that does not work, then maybe your download is incomplete and you need to download the file again.
