This game works with: SheepShaver, Basilisk II, Mini vMac

Similar to the first Prince of Persia, the character explores various deadly areas by running, jumping, crawling, avoiding traps, solving puzzles and drinking magic potions.

Video Available
A video showing the game is available in Cornica.

Prince of Persia 2 is, however, more combat-heavy than its predecessor. In the first game, enemies appear only occasionally and are always alone, while in the sequel, up to four enemies may appear at once, sometimes flanking the player, and may even be instantly replaced by reinforcements when they are killed. As in Prince of Persia, the trick is to complete the game under a strict time limit that passes in real time. Lives are unlimited, but time cannot be regained except by reverting to a previously saved game. In other areas, more significant improvements have been made. The graphics are far more complex than the simple look of the game's predecessor, the areas explored are larger, and the variety of backdrops is greater.

A note about the manuals available from above:
2nd download ("pop2_0.pdf") is suitable for viewing on 68k & PPC Macintosh (requires Acrobat Reader version 3.0 or later). This is a converted copy that had originally been scanned by naveed, his higher rez copy is still available here, note: it's not compatible with classic Mac OS PDF readers.
3rd download ("prince-of-persia-2.pdf") is the Manual in the French language.

On system6 on LC pop2 asks for quickdraw32 to be installed.
Where do I get quickdraw32 for system6?

@MTT Thanks! I used and uploaded the result here to make the PDF more universally accessible.

I couldn't open "pop2.pdf" with Acrobat Reader 5.1

I was able to open this in on Mac OS X.

I couldn't open it in Acrobat v4.0 on classic Mac OS (in SheepShaver) same error message 109 as you were getting.

I next printed pop2.pdf to PDF, using Preview in OS X. I was then able to read it in Acrobat 4 on SheepShaver (so I guess that it would be OK for Acrobat v5 also).

There's something Acrobat 4 and 5 doesn't like in pop2.pdf it seems, but converting it works.

Preview is OK with it and also Acrobat v6.0 in OS X without conversion.

I couldn't open "pop2.pdf" with Acrobat Reader 5.1 (latest reader version). Did anyone successfully open this under Mac OS somehow? At first I thought maybe my file got corrupted when downloading it, but the same happened after redownloading it.

It says there was an error opening the document (109). Since it's a big file for a PDF, I tried increasing Acrobat's RAM usage by 10x, but the same error occured. Is anyone else able to open this?

Yep. So, it's probably only a problem with SheepShaver...

Hmm SNakApple. I still play this game occasionally on my old Bodhi Blue iMac (which includes a PowerPC of course) and I've never had any problem with music or gameplay speeds.

To everybody, FYI, the music from this game is slower with SheepShaver than Basilisk. The probable explanation is that this game was created before PowerPC processors arrive inside Macs & the game was never optimized for them...

@Kayhan53 Where are you trying to play it on? Basilisk? SheepShaver? Real Mac?

I never had any problem playing this, with sound, on my Mac OS 9.2.2 Macs nor Basilisk.

On a side note, this is one of the best games of all time. The Mac version completely and thoroughly outshining all the others.

Mini vMac will now support this game when emulating a Macintosh II with 256 color screen depth.

If you compile Mini vMac with 512x384 screen resolution (original Mac II default) you will be able to watch the introductory credits/story without the corrupted text and graphical artifacts which affect the game in SheepShaver and Basilisk II in 640x480 resolution. The game will still work fine because it was only ever designed to run in 512x384 - higher resolutions just surround the game window with a black background.

The first three levels allow you to skip to the next level by pressing cmd-L. Spacebar shows time remaining, when time is running out. Cmd-V displays software version number. Level 2 is simple to solve without skipping ahead, only 3 small rooms and one easy puzzle / no combat. The documentation based protection is simple to hack thru using the cmd-L to get to it repeatedly.

[Edit by MikeTomTom]: recompiled naveed's PDF - now 68k & PPC Mac compatible (Acrobat 3 or later).

Just like its predecessor, heaps of fun and a cult classic. RECOMMENDED

P.S. The download link is broken, I just get XML on my screen instead.
