Panzer General is turn-based, set on operational level hex maps. One plays lone scenarios from either Axis or Allied side and against a computer or human opponent. In Campaign Mode, the player assumes the role of a German general against the Allied computer.
Panzer General is an operational-level game, and units approximate battalions, although unit size and map scale from one scenario to the next are elastic. While the names and information for the units are reasonably accurate, the scenarios only approximate historical situations.
Its novel feature was to link individual scenarios into a campaign spanning World War II from 1939 to 1945. Units are able to gain experience and become stronger, where success in one battle would award the player prestige to upgrade units, acquire additional units, and select a better scenario for the next battle.

Running into an odd problem in the 1939 campaign. In the 4th mission (conquer Benelux) an allied kickass unit pops up that actually looks like a German tank with near unlimited ammo / fuel and an garbled up unit name. Like someone meddled with an editor or something. See screenshot below. Since I didn't tinker around with ResEdit and downloaded the image from here, I wonder if anyone else experienced the same thing?
I have deleted the faulty disc image previously here and uploaded a new image made from original media.
Note the problems running this with Mac OS 9 as described by ccmac in a comment below
Please re-upload classic game.
New image mounts ok but application Panzer General still not readable.
I tried new image file, it mounts with Toast 6.
MD5 (PanzerGeneral.iso.sit) = dbe36ff46494a8fda1e05a0bcc2d8900
Thanks for fixing it !
I managed to fix the previous disc image by running it through UltraISO under Windows. Have now replaced the dead link.
Great game, I've been looking for it for some time.
Shamefully the link is broken. Can it be re-uploaded?
Stuff-It Expander tells me that the archive file is broken.
MD5 (PanzerGeneral.toast.sit) = 7007ec126eeaafcd5c5bed1428e46fae
Can please check this file and upload a working archive file please ?
Yes, there does seem to be a problem. I get an error when uncompressing, and the resulting file is incomplete.
Download OK but image is broken.
I don't know whether this will fix the OS9 crash, but I have a note about Panzer General not running correctly on power macs even though it is power mac native. Apparantly, instead of using the ppc fpu it looks for a 68k fpu. However, the built in mac 68k emulator does not emulate the fpu so the program crashes/quits. Some don't seem to have this problem so it may only show up in more complex scenarios. The only solution is to use a software fpu emulater, either PowerFPU or SoftwareFPU.
Maybe the same reasons as in Allied General, the successor of this game?
For the records: It installs fine on my iMac G4 with OS 9.2.2 but crashed immediately upon startup. Anyone else experiences the same problem?
An outstanding find !! Many thanks.
I got Deus Ex last week for £0.11, and I have a few new games lines up for £1.00, but nothing as good as this.
Hangs during install on Macintosh emulators - anyone get it installed with luck?
Also, the PC partition, there must be some faults - won't run any installer applications on PC emulators, with 'compiler error' msgs for me - maybe anyone of you get PC version installed, please?
