Guides on emulating older games

Billed as "a real time tactical third person shooter," the game can also be described as an updated version of the classic arcade game Gauntlet, mixed with elements of bloody shooters like Quake. Hollow Ground envisions a post-apocalyptic future in which four mercenaries descend into a subterranean bunker to destroy a monster breeding machine in operation far, far below. You battle mutated creatures while seeking exits on each level that will bring you down to the next level. The goal of the game is to reach the 40th floor, where the monster breeding machine dwells. (Macworld, Oct 9, 2003)

Download #1 is the final version (1.1) for Classic Mac (Mac OS 9), released in 2004.

Download #2 is the final version ( for Mac OS X (10.1.5 minimum), released in 2006

Download #3 is the Hollow Ground Map Editor (v. 1.0.2) for use with the OS X version of the game. The map editor was released in 2006. The user manual for the map editor is the manual download on this page.

Download #4 is Hollow Ground Special Edition (v. 1.1.8) for Mac OS X published by Blackwright and Aescapia in 2008 as a Universal Binary. It can only be played in demo mode as the purchase and registration server no longer exists.

A number of links for other versions of the game can be found via the Wayback Machine, but all such links point to version 1.2.5 (standard edition). I have not put v. 1.2.5 here as it has no special significance, unlike v. 1.2.6 which is the last version.

Both version 1.1 and can be registered with the following code in which “0” is a zero: kcn0crew
