(Demo only; seeking full version!)
"HIARCS is a commercial computer chess program developed by Mark Uniacke. Its name is an acronym stands for higher intelligence auto response chess system."
"The first version of the program was released in 1980. Version 11, the first version to support multiprocessing, was released in December 2006. The current version, version 13, was released in May 2010.
The strength of the program comes more from its positional algorithms than from its search speed." --Wikipedia.org

This archive includes the demo of version 1.0. The last version to work with the classic Mac OS is version 7.0. Current versions can be found at the HIARCS Chess Software page.

The official website links to two online stores to purchase HIARCS 7.0, but neither store is selling it anymore. I suspect the author might still be willing to sell it if contacted via e-mail, but I haven't tried doing that so far. In case anyone is willing to try.
Key HIARCS versions would be incredibly cool to have from a Mac archivist's perspective, but it seems particularly valuable for serious, committed chess players, or chess players that just simply really enjoy the game, but seek a very high level challenge.
