In 2241, the primitive Arroyo suffers the worst drought on record. Faced with the calamity, the village elder asks the direct descendant of the Vault Dweller, referred to as the Chosen One, to perform the quest of retrieving a Garden of Eden Creation Kit (GECK) for Arroyo. The GECK is a device that can create thriving communities out of the post-apocalyptic wasteland. The player, assuming the role of the Chosen One, is given nothing more than the Vault Dweller's jumpsuit, a RobCo PIPBoy 2000 handheld device, a Vault 13 water flask, a spear and some cash to start on his mission.
This is the sequel to everyone's favorite Post-Apocalyptic Turn-based Role-Playing Game, Fallout.
The 2nd download at top right is the updater to v1.02a of Fallout 2. The update can also be found on the Wayback Machine archive of the support page.
An unofficial 1.02.31 patch is available here.
Instructions on how to install are included in the download. Be sure to select the Mac version.
For Mac OS X. Classic is not supported.
The GOG version of Fallout 2 for Mac is actually the DOS version in a DOSBox wrapper. As a result, mods for the GOG version of Fallout 2 Mac are not compatible with this version, and vice versa.
Comments
The game has the ability to fly out at inopportune moments, which is unpleasant, especially considering the absence of any autosaves, but personally I did not have moments when the save broke
The game crashed on the boss fight and couldnt load save again, so I deleted it. Some months later, I install it again, reach to the end level, kill boss... and it crashes during the ending cutscene, breaking this save too.
And now I notice 1.02a patch which I didnt seen before.
Long story short, now I clearly see why people still like and play this game, maybe will play through it again some time.
If game crashes after installing russian localization, delete MAP.MSG, WORLDMAP.MSG and other map localization files placed in your Fallout 2 folder (Library/Application Support/Fallout 2)
Is this compatible with Snow Leopard? I've been trying to run it on a 2006 iMac, but when I launch it the graphics are messed up. They only display on half of the screen and all the colors are inverted. Any response or info would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Mega Link down.
Can anyone confirm if the restoration project works with the mac version of fallout 2? Note that if you install by copying into Application Support you will have to set the Proto folder the read only. It also tells you to remove the Patch000.DAT, I'd make a backup first.
Yes, 2002 or 2003 is more likely.
Moby Games has a page where the title says Fallout 2 for Macintosh (2002) - MobyGames
But if you scroll down the page to the "Trivia" section, you will see:
I see in your edit that you've located 2002 as being the year, so I'll effect that change as being the release year. Actually, the additional compatibility info you supplied, will also be added to the page. Thanks.
Year Released 1999??
Compatibility:
For Mac OS X. Classic is not supported.
Something doesn't add up...
Edit:
It launched August 2002, and requires a G3/233MHz or faster and 128MB of RAM. Fallout 2 runs on Mac OS X only, and requires Mac OS X 10.1.4 or later.
Mods for Fallout 2 Mac can be found at the Fallout Database here: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/2aheaguwymint/Welcome_to_Fallout_Database
Keep in mind that not all the mods are compatible, just the ones inside the "mods for mac" sub folder. It may also be possible to convert certain pc mods to work on the mac version, but that's easier said than done.
truly one of the best rpgs; too bad they didn't make torment and arcanum for mac
This is only one of the best games ever made.
