Sooo... because this isn't particularly an easy game and some may find the "practice practice practice" that Gwydion mentions too tedious, I've uploaded the Dungeon Master II editor. Health, Stamina, Mana ... change them to your liking!
My absolute favorite! Maybe because it was my first RPG, or the fact that I still play it... I strongly recommend you getting the Prima Strategy Guide. Full maps & character info; along with the WT, which you should avoid unless you're stuck. Practice, practice, practice! Can't stress that enough; all the time with all characters with everything in every class! Even the biggest & dumbest characters can "eventually" learn magic, which is how you win! And never cast fireballs or damaging spells at gates that are there to protect you while you rest; you WILL eventually destroy them & they do NOT regenerate! Days of great fun with many possible combinations for player parties to challenge your resolve.
Another strange thing I noticed was when I tried resetting the PRAM with the OS9 HD, it came up with the finder question mark for a split second, then boot into OSX.
Not too sure, in the MDD my RAM right now is 768 cause I found a dud. The screen setting I used was 640x480 which I think is the lowest res. I still find OS9 to crash, assuming preference conflicts and all.
Errors and lock ups. Its like you godda take your time to do some things, and no fast movements compared to the newer macs, im used to.

Damn this is the only game thats properly frozen on my MDD so far, locks up after bout 5 mins. Ive tried quite a few other ones, and they run pretty well.
This one seems to run well in Basilisk II and not at all in SheepShaver. I tested both OS 8 and 9 in SheepShaver and ended up with the black screens on start up that you described over on E-Maculation.
Haven't tested too deeply, but it appears to work just fine in Mac OS 7.5 with Basilisk!

Yes, the PRAM holds the startup disk / system.

But you should be able to play the PC original version in Virtual PC (with Windows 98) with ease on your MDD.
And if the 68k architecture support is right, you could also play it under Basillisk II (but you'd need OS X running for that).
What's the RAM allocation set to ? (bearing in mind your display may be using 12-16x the RAM originally estimated for handling the video).

This game will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was the first RPG I ever played.

Every time I open it, it crashes SheepShaver. Anyone have any suggestions? This was one of my favorite games growing up...
I played this game for HOURS and had a cheat sheet for spells. It's been over 10 years since I last played. I might start again =).
