Dark Seed was the first and one of the few successful titles of the short-lived company Cyberdreams. It's notorious for using the paintings of horror artist H. R. Giger, which give this point-and-click adventure a truly enigmatic atmosphere. It's also known for featuring producer Mike Dawson as the main character and for having a strict time limit, which makes playing this game a love-it-or-hate-it kind of deal. By the way you circle around the different kind of cursors by either command-clicking, control-clicking or option clicking.
Update: Game archive now includes Patch 1.1 with instructions. The patch is said to cure the 'Error 25' syndrome.
See also Dark Seed (floppy version) and Dark Seed II.
This game is also available for Amiga, Amiga CD32 and DOS.

Added patch which is said to make the game playable on more 'modern' Mac OS (OS 9.x ?)
Is this a full dump? On the game's box you can read that the game has CD-Audio tracks but here they are missing...
I've since taken time to install & test this game on Basilisk II. The mouse works fine for me. Dark Seed uses standard Macintosh "one button" mouse controls, so there is no conflict with the emulator.
To get past the endless loop of the introduction you start a new game by moving the mouse up to the top of the screen to make the menu-bar become visible, then click "File" menu > "New Game" (or "Open Game" if you have saved games previously). Or use your keyboard "Command + N" key combo to start a new game, or "Command + O" to open a previously saved game. Also with a saved game - double-click its icon to launch the game into where you left off.
Read the "QuickReference.pdf" for mouse & keyboard commands and what the various cursors do during the game. Also the "Walkthrough" text doc for brief clues on what to expect during the game.
the game work but the controls don't so it can't be played (I tried it with basilisk)
I've got the Darkseed CD also; I've scanned all the contents into PDFs and added them to the existing archive.
What a classic! Hopefully you will upload that one for old time sake. I clearly remember the name now. Long live classic mac gaming.
Yes, it was called Hell Cab. Very very odd game as I have the full original CD ; )
Does anyone remember a game very related and close to this time, it was a mac adventure game where you travelled in a taxi and went back in time? You went to the trenches of ww1 and to the roman gladiator pits?
CD version, nice!
nice horror adventure
Can't wait to give it a spin, thanks!
