Guides on emulating older games

Includes Civilization III plus the Play the World Multiplayer and Conquest expansion packs.

DLs 1 & 2 are the parts of a zipped disc image of the game DVD.

DL 3 contains the NoDVD and serial number. The serial number is not needed for the NoDVD to work, but it may be useful if you obtain an official copy of the game disc.

DL 4 updates the game to a universal binary, but it will not be of any use without an original DVD because the NoDVD is PPC only. I have not found a NoDVD for the universal binary version of the game.

DL 5 is Civ3Edit - the only PPC Macintosh map editor out there. (requires OSX 10.1+)

GameRanger support: 1.0 (expansions also available)
GameRanger crossplay: No.

See also: Civilization, Civilization II (Multiplayer Gold Edition), Civilization: Call to Power, Civilization III (earlier editions), Civilization IV

Architecture: PPC

Mac OS X 10.3.9 minimum
PPC G3/G4/G5
256 MB RAM
2 GB hard disk space
1024 x 768 display

Just some notes about this game for people looking to download. It doesn't seem you are able to play Play the World without having an original DVD for this game. No matter what I've tried PTW does not work. It also looks like you can't play without the No-DVD without using Toast or similar programs. Mounting the DMG isn't enough on this one. I haven't tried that myself because I have just acquired the original DVD but I'd recommend just using the no-DVD or Toast if needed.

Just reinstalled and here's how to get it running full screen:

1. Hold down command key while launching
2. Select the native resolution

Otherwise for windows/wineskin ports open the conquests.ini file and add the following:
Voice Quality=0

I run it on my MacBook pro (1920x1200) and it uses the native resolution, it's just the menus that are locked to 1024x768. The actual game runs at native resolution. Also there is a graphics file you can alter on the windows version to run at any resolution, I once played it on a 4k TV at full res.

Just added a map editor (DL5). It says 10.1+ is required and I can launch it on 10.4.11, but it throws errors ("assertion failed") at me and crashes. I wonder if someone could try and verify that it works with an older OSX version like 10.2.8, 10.3.9 or maybe even SkyCapt could give it a try on his 10.4.8 on steroids Wink

Shame this game doesn't support resolution scaling, it is locked to 1024x768 and won't go any higher.
