It has been three years since Rollie McFly rid the Bugdom of the evil King Thorax and his minions, but the Bugdom can still be a dangerous place as our new hero Skip is about to find out. While on his way to visit his family on the far side of the Bugdom, a Bully Bee swooped down and stole Skip’s knapsack. Your job as Skip is to track down the Bully Bee and get your knapsack back. The chase takes place mostly in and around a house.

You will make new friends in the Bugdom who will help you through each area. Keep an eye out for Sam the Snail and Sally the Chipmunk. Sam will usually make you prove your worthiness before he will help you, but Sally is just interested in gathering acorns, so be sure to brings lots of those to her. Additionally, the same Buddy Bugs that helped Rollie McFly defeat King Thorax will help you defeat most mean enemy bugs that you encounter.

Bugdom 2 is a 3D action-adventure game suitable for all ages.

AppStore version latest update: 10 years ago.

I don't, but it just keeps throwing an error and then tries to open a browser to the purchase page. I think it's because the demo isn't the full game, and so it kinda breaks it. BUT since the full-game download is actually newer, it doesn't need the patch.

BTW this game is GORGEOUS on the default Radeon 9000. SO GLAD to FINALLY have it - only one other thing am wanting (an R11/.5 version of Cinema 4D) and my machine will be COMPLETE!!!! (evil laugh)

@OpenSourceMac: Thanks for doing the legwork on this. It's valuable information that you've given us. Also an excellent suggestion that you've passed on to Pangea re: Gog

Do you know what the version of Bugdom 2, the upgrade file up in the page was meant to install to? I had assumed that it would be for updating DL #1 but there isn't any info given in the page (or in the download itself). So it will be removed on your previous suggestion. Thanks again.

P.S. found he does have a paypal, so sent him the money along with a suggestion to check with Gog. Considering that they allow manual download+installations, a LOT of games can be sold there for diverse platforms.

Gotcha. BTW - the update listed here should be removed. Applying it WRECKS the game.

Thanks OpensourceMac, but no, I don't think that you should add the serial, regardless of whether you pay for it or not. Brian Greenstone is very generous with his time and for handing out a serial to you gratis. But he is still trying to make a living selling shareware games and I think that we should respect that fact. I think that we can host the demo version 3.1 here now. But leave up to individuals as to how they source their own serial code for it, in the meantime.

Who knows, Brian Greenstone or Pangea may decide to make this version of Bugdom 2 a free game in the not too distant future as they did with Bugdom 1, etc.

Also, what's to stop anybody from doing the same as you, write to Pangea and query about not being able to access the App Store and then receive a serial, like you just have? Wink

[Edit] and as Pangea is able to provide individuals with a paypal link upon enquiry, then it must be considered that v3.1 can still be purchased.

He just sent me a free password to unlock the game. I've replied asking if he wants me to Papal the $10 for it (which I am happy to do), but if he doesn't accept it, you might consider letting me put it here for everyone to use.

I think we will be unloading all pangea software games here on macintosh garden for PPC.
A lot websites have change. not only bugdom 2 but all other pangea games on apple application store.

I do agree. I wish that they would say just what their game will now run on and give some way of purchasing it (if they still want to sell it) other than the App Store. (I don't access the store so it's also why I'm interested in your direct question to them).

OpenSourceMac's picture

Or even most Intel Macs! I really wish they would just use Gog. There was also a PC version and nobody is better at getting old stuff to run on new hardware.

MikeTomTom's picture
by MikeTomTom - 2021, February 14 - 10:47pm

I see, well that is a problem. I still look forward to the response you'll get, but it's not looking good for purchasing the game for pre-Intel Macs.

The big issue is there are no serials or passwords with the App Store. It's all handled internally. Also, with Apple's phase-out of 32-bit this game will only really work for a tiny percentage of modern users. This is a GOOD GAME, and I'd buy it if that were an option, but that's looking pretty unlikely.

It's hard to imaging that they could even create passwords now to sell direct.

exactly how someone can possibly buy it - without ACCESS to the Mac App Store.

That is a clever question. I am looking forward to the response you get to it, OpenSourceMac.

My question was "if I were to purchase it from the App Store, would the serial from App Store's purchase also work for version 3.1 as downloaded from Pangea?"
I did get a response too, but it didn't really answer my question, only to say that the "App Store version should still work on any Mac with 10.14 or earlier."

How much earlier was not alluded to.

So just got a reply and they stated that the one on the Mac App Store, that downloads to a computer, as opposed to an iOS device, is the old U.B. version, but I'm waiting for a reply as to exactly how someone can possibly buy it - without ACCESS to the Mac App Store. The App Store 'App' and the DRM for those games can't be satisfied by any Mac OS before 10.9 (Mavericks).

Agreed! I'd happily buy this if available.

have emailed them to ask if there is any way to buy the PPC or UB version.

And I have just done the same. Hopefully we or one of us will get a reply.

The PowerPC version is really gone now. Just to put a pin in it, have emailed them to ask if there is any way to buy the PPC or UB version. If not, we should be able to put it up here. Will let you all know if and what I hear back.

I look at Pangea Software and click on buy link to apple store every game. 5 of 6 games require Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later. That make them intel games not universal. 1 game named leaf on wind require Mac OS X 10.10 or later 64 bit.

OpenSourceMac's picture
by OpenSourceMac - 2021, February 14 - 12:04am

On the Mac App Store it states:

"Requires iOS 9.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Apple TV."

Should be hostable now that the UB isn't available.

Is there a version that will run with the latest version of Mac? (It doesn't support the 32-bit version from the App Store sadly...)

MikeTomTom's picture
by MikeTomTom - 2020, October 13 - 11:39pm

No idea about the apple store. Try the support link to get the email address and see if you get a response to wanting to give them some money. The UB is there to download and I assume they'd like some $$$ for it. Maybe the key you'd get with the store purchase would work with the UB.

I see what you are saying, but the only way to buy the Full Version via any of the links is back to the Snow Leopard version in the Apple Store.

Says 10.6 or later in the store version.

There appears to be no way to buy the PPC Full Version.

Without a key #, it's just a demo.

@OpenSourceMac: I don't know which link you are trying, but both the "Download (External Link)" and the "sold via the Pangea site" link in the description lead to the v3.1 download links page for the full (Universal Binary) game, suitable for Tiger 10.4 and above - a 133MB download.

OpenSourceMac's picture
by OpenSourceMac - 2020, October 13 - 10:07pm

The link no longer connects to the PowerPC version at all (the link forwards to the Snow Leopard version). Does anyone have the PPC full-version?

Uploaded the demo of Bugdom 2 v1.0.3 from MacAddict #79 Cover disc here. The latest PowerPC (as opposed to Universal) binary version, compatible with both OS 9 and X, is 2.0.1. I have also uploaded that updater, sourced from pangea software via wayback machine's help.

Older versions and 3.0.x versions are difficult to find, however. Unlike with regular apps, I believe games are desirable to be had in as many official versions as possible, because from a technical point-of-view, each version represents a different game.

Just getting that thought out there.
