This game works with: Mini vMac

A strong Othello opponent without graphical bells and whistles, which has had a first life in the early 80s as a Commodore PET program. Some of its characteristics: 5 levels of play (depth), problem mode, evaluation, forward and reverse, suggestion, referee mode, etc. Non-crippled shareware.

Documentation in obsolete Word format has been converted to PDF for more convenience.

Incidentally, the Brand Othello engine has later been embedded inside Smart Game Board, the doctorate project of Anders Kierulf.

Architecture: 68k

No information about minimum requirements for this software but it should run with the very first versions of the Mac operating system, considering its release date. Does NOT run on System 7 and later.

Tested successfully on:
Mini vMac for Linux w/System 6.0.8
Mini vMac for MacOSX w/System 6.0.8

Why settle for just an excerpt from "Othello: Brief & Basic" when you could have the entire book for free? The other two suggestions below are also very interesting.

Othello: Brief & Basic (1985), 56 p.
by Ted Landau, the famous Macintosh journalist

Othello: A Minute to Learn, A Lifetime to Master (2005), 162 p.
by Brian Rose, former World champion

À la découverte d'Othello (1993) [in French], 23 p.
