Please Unlock the Disk (CD)

I just reinstalled System 6.0.8 on my Mac Classic and everything seems to be working just fine, but when I try to read a CD (with all my games on it) I get the message "Please unlock the disk "Games" and try again. The desktop file couldn't be created.".

Everything was working before I reinstalled System 6 (it could read CD's just fine) so I must have missed and option somewhere. I seem to recall having this issue before and had to click and option somewhere, either in the OS itself or in the CD Rom control panel. Any ideas?

I think installing the Desktop Manager init should fix this.

This is a great question. I have the same error message come up every time I try to mount a locked disk image in Mini vMac running System 6. It's interesting to hear you have the same error on a real machine.

Extract this and put it in your system folder, then reboot.

If I remember correctly, this occurs below Mac OS 7.5 and I solved this problem by installing a CD driver software even within Mini vMac (see Knubbelmac.de for details).

It's because there is no (invisible) Desktop DB and Desktop DF on the CD - the desktop database for System 6. Mac OS 7 and later used a single Desktop file. So I guess the CD was imaged / burned under Mac OS 7 or later.

But that's not the end of it, I'm sure "back in the day" I could mount these discs in System 6. I may be wrong, it may have been that it was so close to System 6 that everyone burned discs with the System 6 Desktop database too.
