Obscure Games Recommendations :)

Hey guys! I thought I'd start this thread to hear some recommendations of more obscure Mac games. What are some that you can recommend for Tiger and before? I mostly use OS 9.2.2 but with some work can go back farther if the games are older, no problem. Smile

My recommendation would be Realmz but u guys probably know that one already. So, what are some of your picks?

Well, how do you define "obscure"? As in really weird stuff? Does this one count as obscure? Or are you looking for Mac-exclusive, shareware gems? I've been fiddling with that one lately.

absolutely those count! i want both of them, haha. can i ask how u found the keep one? i've scoured RPGs as a genre up and down but never saw that game listed. looks exactly like what i'm after! thanks!

but yes, obscure more meaning it could be any genre, just something interesting and maybe lesser known (i.e., not Diablo). your picks were perfect. Smile

I'm a rather big fan of Space Station Pheta. Not necessarily obscure within the Mac world, but definitely so in the mainstream.

seems like a neat game. i wasn't aware of it, so thank u for the 'obscure' recommendation. Smile

hmm, what's one i can offer. Check out Icewind Dale. Sorry, not very obscure but some here might not know about it. Features a 6 person party fighting thru levels in the dungeons & dragons universe. Very cool.

Darkwood is cool, too. Very basic combat game with some RPG elements. Simple, small download and install. Worth checking out. Smile

Come on, I know u guys gotta have some weird or obscure games u play. Tongue Even ones that aren't that obscure would be welcomed here. Just something to get us maybe checking out some cool games that we normally wouldn't find or look for.

A few that REALLY surprised me are:

"Shadow Warrior" SERISOULY - JUST DO IT!
https://macintoshgarden.org/games/shadow-warrior

"9: The Last Resort" - Feels like a French Movie - like City of Lost Children: really something special.

"Sacrifice" - from back when Shiny Entertainment just could NOT be contained!

-- These last two require OSX, but are well worth your time --

"Giants: Citizen Kabuto" REALLY is only playable with an AMD GPU, but is a HELL of an AWESOME Game.

"Project Nomads" Not perfect, but really TRIPPY and Different. I kinda' wonder if this is an origin of games like "Dark Void" and "Crimson Skies" that came after.

duuuude...exquisite choices, man! thank u for showing me such obscure gems. these are the types of games i mean; games that you may not have a clue about what they are or how good they are, but someone has played them and discovered a gem! so please, i encourage everyone here to share their gems they've found. Smile

tomorrow when i'm at my mac i will get to downloading these, for sure. thanks again!

and seeing those games u listed in the garden may not even have given enough info or screenshots for me to just casually grab them. but your recommendation means i will *definitely* check them out. i'd love to hear more suggestions for all types of games that maybe are a bit under-represented with information on the garden.

When Covid first hit, I had a few weeks off, and took about a month to finally try all the games on my list. While there are obvious ones out there, these really kinda were that thing I "Didn't know I wanted till I had it".

Also, while NOT obscure, the Star Trek Elite Forces games (running in OSX) are BADASS (if you like Star Trek).

AND these also are SUBLIME TREATS if you have a machine to run them (all these Monolith Games REALLY like AMD GPUs):

BUT on the other side, if you have NVidia Geforce: this is a no-brainer:

Sorry - ONE LAST ONE: If you like Diablo/Baldur's Gate style games, this is shockingly good (and pretty amazing design: https://macintoshgarden.org/games/kult-heretic-kingdoms - Just keep the unlock code on a text document, as it seems to forget it's unlocked every few weeks.

Obscure games ... try the Mac version of Star Wars: Bombad Racing. It was apparently finished / almost-finished when LucasGames dropped it - the true definition of "abandonware". Sad Potentially there may be a copy somewhere out there, if only as a near-complete beta.

Not really all that obscure, but if you can get it running, Cap'n Magneto: Into The Void is a good adventure game from back in the day.

Don't meet the women wearing a sunshade, because then...

***GAME OVER*** Wink

This is the obscure part I had in mind.

i see, lol. that is indeed obscure, haha.

i grabbed most of these games but am currently working on recording a dual monitor setup - dvi to hdmi output of one graphics card into my el gato hd capture card. so far it seems to work pretty much, just with some weird stuff happening (monkey island is black and white on the capture card and color on my monitor, and heroes of might & magic 3 only plays on the capture card and not my monitor, etc.) on os 9. still tinkering a bit, we'll see what happens. You said you also run Tiger on another question you asked earlier. For 10.4 Kult Heretic Kingdoms is a great rpg. For Os 9 Summoner is an awesome RPG and it was a launch title for ps2 back in 2000 so it's another very unmac like port.

Any game made by Osamu Sato, which includes Tong-Nou and Roly-Polys, among others.
