Needed: New German dictionaries for 68k MS-Word 6.x

Hello Folks,

For a book project of mine I need the New-German dicts for 68k Mac-Word 6.0. Any offers?

Anything in the Microsoft Select Application Pool that you can use?
(specifically, DL #2)

Thx for the hint but those are all Word 6 installs - which I already got. Around the turn of the century there were three different "language reforms" in Germany, chasing each other in short succession. Now Word 6 is up to #2, but #3 happened around 97/98 (a few years after its release).

I am starting a new book project and would like to get my text up to spec grammar-wise before I submit it for proofing.

Maybe someone with a Word 98 install could upload his German dictionary and spell checker files?

I don't know if the dictionaries from a PPC Word 98 will work in a 68k Word 6, but I've added the Rechtschreibpruefung folder from the German Office 98 suite, which you can try.

It's the entire Rechtschreibpruefung folder containing dictionaries for English as well. I included the entire folder as I didn't want to miss anything out. Hope it works for you.

Thanke, thanke, thanke - I'll try it first thing tomorrow.
Writing books with my vintage Mac setup is so much fun, I could spend the rest of my days like this. Laughing out loud

Many thanks for the dictionaries, but they seem to make no difference what-so-ever. Given that I recently installed a seperate MS-Office 6.0 dictionary package (hoping that might contain an update) I wonder where those dict files are supposed to go anyway.

What was the location of these files on the install where you took them from?

You would need to move the contents from that folder into the Word 6 folder containing the dictionaries for Word 6.

But unfortunately, I have delved a little further into this matter, and discovered the reformed dictionaries did not make it into Microsoft Office/Word until the release of Ms Office 2001 for Macintosh.

Reformed German dictionaries
Ms Office 2001 reformed German spelling dictionaries, etc

These are from the German Ms Office 2001 here at the MG. The included reformed dictionaries are not compatible with Word 6.

I think that you have hit a brick wall with this one.

Sad Sad
While I thank you for your research, it also makes me very sad. If not for those @#!$% "Rechtschreibreformen" that I could write error-free novels in German with my vintage Mac setup.

Strangely enough some add-on spell checkers do have the reformed language rules - but alas they only offer checks on a page by page basis (as they exchange the text via the clipboard). Do you know if Apple Works for 68k might have up-to-date German dictionaries? Then I could write the text in MS-Word and check it with A-Works, before submitting it for proofing.

I don't know. I can't see any German install sets of ClarisWorks/AppleWorks 5 here at the MG.

Which in itself, is a pity.

And which was one of the reasons that had steered me to MS-Office in the first place.

You'd think that 24bit or IIGS_User might have a copy laying around <poke> Wink

Nothing on the attic here, I´m afraid. Wife was using RagTime back in the days and Pagemaker later.
Office was not used much and if any `98 - which was PPC only.

No ClarisWorks/AppleWorks bundled in there, 24bit? Specifically version 5 for the most recent that has 68k compatibility.

No matter, just there isn't a copy here at the MG that I can see.

Anything with 3rd reform version of German should do - not for editing, just for spell checking.

I suppose rebuilding a dictionary for MSW6 would be out of the question?

I'm assuming such a feat would not be trivial at all, since likely it couldn't be automated without needing to do some very serious and heavy debugging after the fact.

I can confirm that most of MikeTonTom's Word 98 dicts work flawlessly for Word 6. But some of them were actually smaller in size (maybe that's due to the Word 6 dictionary update that I had installed).
So I did a "Frankenstein" and just kept those files, that were bigger in size.

But that still leaves me w/o any valid spell checking abillity for German texts. Shock
