I was reading about the recently-released "Hardcoregaming101.com presents The Guide to Classic Graphic Adventures" (http://retro-treasures.blogspot.com/2011/05/guide-to-classic-graphic-adv...), a 772-page encyclopedia covering 250 games, from King's Quest to the popular demise of the adventure game genre (2000). While I don't have it, I do have the The Macintosh Bible Guide to Games, which is an excellent read and a fine collection to any good Mac library.
So, taking cues from those two books, I had an idea: to create and sell an encyclopedia entitled MacintoshGarden.org Presents Classic Mac Games", covering everything from 1984 to 2001. The volume will primarily talk about Mac-first games (such as the MacVenture series, Dark Castle, etc.), classic computer games of the 1990s, some shareware games (such as the Ray's Maze series, Blobbo etc.), and more.
What's NOT included? Weird shareware "underground" titles (such as Mormonoids from the Deep, Happyweed), sub-par DOS ports, non-games (as is included on Mac Garden), anything released past 2000 (sorry, Giants: Citizen Kabuto), kid's games.
I think it would be great if a bunch of us including me pitched in to write stuff for it.
