Mac OS 9.2.2 on Powerbook Pismo and Powerbook PDQ and iBook Clamshell and iBook 900mhz
Putt-Putt Joins the Parade (1992) and Putt Putt Goes to the Moon (1993) work just fine!
The issue: Both Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo (1995) and Putt Putt Travel Through Time (1997) produce an error in Mac OS 9. They do a CD-Rom Speed Test, then:
"The Application has unexpectedly quit because an update to the software is required for compatibility with the improved Mac OS file system. You should save your work in other open applications and restart the computer."
I thought this was because I was booting Mac OS 9.2.2 on a Mac OS Extended volume. I tried installing Mac OS 9.2.2 on a Mac OS Standard volume. Same Error!
Then I booted up the PDQ in Mac OS 8.1 on a Mac OS Extended volume and the game works!
Why do the old 1992 and 1993 games work in 9.2.2 but the newer 1995 and 1997 don't? What is this "improved Mac OS file system" that breaks the game which works just fine on a Mac OS 8.1 Extended volume?
