Claris Impact better than Symantec's MORE

Hello World,

As the gullible user that I am I had accepted the fable of MORE being the ultimate Outliner tool on vintage MacOS. Yet for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to setup my own clip art libraries in MORE and moreover, I never managed to get text, tables and graphics combined very well.

So I finally gave Claris's Impact a try and viola I achieved with it in one evening, what I couldn't get done in MORE after many weeks of trying.
Now I got my own storybook object library, an outliner with timetable and clipart graphics for my characters.

So why is it that almost nobody mentioned Impact back then, when discussing Outliners for the Mac?

I think MORE's reputation had a thing or two to do with Living VideoText being very good at promoting themselves, being early in the market, and doing demos around the Macworld conference circuit before selling MORE to VC-funded Symantec.

Impact was also a bit of a mid-90s product released right when everybody's attention shifted to The Internet, and scheduling/calendar apps were certainly common between shareware and retail. Perhaps an instance of the right product at the wrong time.

Yeah, looks to me like Impact just hit the shelves a year or two too late. Once Windows XP and the Internet came along, Web browsers and Java became the big craze. An mere outliner - no matter how good - could no longer shine as a big killer app by then.

What a shame - for Impact would have deserved better. Shock
Even today its good enough to compete with some of the higher end mind mapping tools. And its GUI design is actually intuitive - something that MORE doesn't even try to achieve.

PS: It seems that Impact doesn't jive well with RAM Charger. But no probs once I disabled that option.
