SpellTools is a universal spelling checker for a classic Mac OS. Its usefulness becomes apparent when used with programs without a built-in spelling checker. Such as; SimpleText, BBEdit Lite, HyperCard, RagTime Solo, etc.

SpellTools can also read back text audibly using the Mac's built-in voices - great for grammar checking. It also has a Text Stamper, an Internet Garbage Character Stripper, Find and Replace, and other useful features.

Archived as Disk Copy 6.3 image and compressed as StuffIt 5.5 ".sit" archive.

The above archive contains the SpellTools v1.3.3 full installer, plus the SpellTools v1.4 updater.

Developed by Craig Marciniak, SpellTools v1.3.3 was distributed as freeware by Newer Technology in 1998.

In 2000, ownership of SpellTools went back to the author Craig Marciniak, who released the v1.4 update as a fix for Mac OS 9 users and as an interim step, prior to releasing SpellTools as shareware. The shareware version was never released (as far as I know) - perhaps the arrival of Mac OS X put an end to any viability of it becoming a shareware product for a classic Mac OS.

SpellTools requirements:
• System Software version 7.5 or later
• At least 8 MB of RAM
• At least 1 MB of available disk space

- If you want to use SpellTools on Mac OS 9.0 to 9.2.2, then you must install v1.3.3 first, then install the v1.4 update, before using SpellTools. Version 1.3.3 is incompatible with Mac OS 9.x

Note: There are only spelling dictionaries for US English included. AFAIK there are no other language dictionaries available for this software.
