Guides on emulating older applications

"RealPC emulates an Intel Pentium MMX based PC or compatible, allowing you to run PC games and programs, including MS-DOS, Windows 3 and Windows 95 games and applications, alongside your existing Macintosh applications."

MD5 checksum: 1fc2a39cd227b8d5a4f1c69216a2d4b9 *

The major difference with this version of RealPC, is version 1.1 shipped with IBM's "PC DOS 7.0", dropping MS DOS 6.2.2 from the installed drive file. You can still install MS DOS & Windows 3.1 & 95, only you must provide these yourself.

"RealPC also offers Sound Blaster Pro and Sound Blaster 16 compatibility; joystick support; fast DirectX(R) games support when you add Windows 95, and seamless integration with your Macintosh." --publisher's own description

Architecture: PPC

Requires PPC and Mac OS 7.1.2 or later. Partially worked in SheepShaver.

RealPC 1.1 requires real Mac PPC hardware. In SheepShaver it trys to run but gets too many errors to be considered useable. It does however run very well in "Classic" on a PPC OS X system, 10.4.11 or earlier.

Looking for the RealPC 1.0.9 Update. Did you upload it anywhere where one still can get hold of it?

Have you considered also, installing DOS on Virtual PC? The carbonized VP6 and later can run native in PPC OS X, so the CD issue you're experiencing with RealPC shouldn't be an issue there.

  i can't acces to the cdrom F:

It appears this is an issue with running RealPC under classic. While CD access works fine if running under a native classic OS, it seems to be broken when running under the classic environment of Mac OS X.

The only workaround I can think of here is to copy files you need to access on CD ROM to a shared folder so that you can then access those files via RealPC.

Anyone who is interested in this, feel free to post screenshots or description; I've never used this and don't plan to. There was a copy on CDR that came included with some other items sent to me, so I've done what I can to archive it for everyone else.

Insignia re-packaged their emulators so many times and with such confusing options that I don't know where this one fits in exactly. On rare occasions when I need to emulate a PC, I use Virtual PC.
