All versions of Server come with a malware file named "/usr/share/mailman/tests/msgs/nimda.txt" which can be erased OR ignored, not that important, and this file has no resource fork.

Clam anti-virus (Server 10.4.11) calls this file a "Exploit.IFrame.Gen", the malware is just some bad HTML tags that can crash some bad HTML readers and it exists in Server mailman's "tests" folder as a particular example for testing purposes. By erasing nimda.txt you can start scanning the OS software for viruses without resulting in this reported infection.

I don't have the machine anymore now, but I think it was related to me using the "Password Reset" tool on another OS X install disc and accidentally changing the "root" password of the Tiger Server system instead of the password for the user I wanted to change...

by MacTouch - 2017, May 18 - 4:24pm

Very sorry to learn that. I suppose u have tried all the versions ? I hope that's not an hardware issue.

I might try to download this at some point. My Mac Server G4/933 Quicksilver had Tiger Server on it when I got it, and unfortunately I had to erase it and re-install with Panther Server because it stopped booting. :-/

I don't mean Classic "System Folder", getting that is no trouble.
I mean the Classic Pref Pane, and the interface in OSX that ties into launching Classic Env is what's missing from Universal Tiger. **I figured it out just now all my lonesome, and it is a Hack slightly. I've gone To Forum with this, and shall Xplain.

jes got myself a 'new' OS for my Mirror Door 2003 model !

Hi SkyCapt

I don't think Classic is included on Server discs. But I believe u need to install Classic manually with another "normal" Tiger disc. Good luck in your attempt... Let us know if u get it successfully. Wink

10.4.7U works, but if I update to 10.4.8U through 10.4.10U then its new graphics card drivers stop working on my hardware. Updating to 10.4.11U returns me to working. For the time being I can make .8 thru .10 gfx work by replacing their set of 5 "ATIRadeon9700" driver extensions with those from 10.4.7U (maybe taken from 10.4.11U also). Computer problems : it's always something.

Server Universal fixes The worst crash bug that I get from Client PPC 10.4.9 thru 10.4.11 (Client Intel doesn't crash this way either) but all the other Tiger bugs I know about are still here in ServerU.

Still hoping for Classic Env, without it might be the one thing stopping me from using this OS. It feels like they just omitted a software module and it could work by reintroducing that module. When I try launching a Classic app it sez:
"The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -1)."

10.4.7 Server Universal
The codes on the previous comment below work, but have expired. Code is from 10.4.0 and setting the date to shortly after 10.4.7's birth was still expired. I installed 10.4.7 by first setting the computer's date to shortly after 10.4.0's birth, I tested May 1 2005 - then used the installer's disk utility to erase my destination volume, and installed. After configuring, I restored my clock and this stays working.

OSX 10.4.7 Server installs with Spotlight metadata indexing (already) disabled, nice to know this crowd is too good for that. And no music video before setup assistant, all of this is serious business.

Question : I'm not getting Classic Environment even tho I'm running on PPC PMG4. Can Tiger Server Universal also do Classic mode??
Answer : si, oui, yesss. I shall describe how in forum topic
"Can I run Classic Environment on a PowerPC with Tiger Server Universal Binary edition?" Right now I'm still playing Star Wars Podracer on Server.

[weird I can edit this comment but not my next one. I said/say that 10.4.8U thru 10.4.10U has broken ATI graphics card drivers on my particular hardware, but I meant/mean 10.4.9U thru 10.4.10U ]

So, I suppose that the serial number I provided don't works for our new visitor, as I can't test it myself. If someone can do that, it will help everybody. In this case, I will have to replace it. Thanks...

Yes, I understand very well. Smile However, I have downloaded the file, then, trying to mount it & it appears that there is an error in the checksum. So, I have compared this file with the original & they are not identical. But, may be, my downloading operation has failed. So, if someone can test it for confirmation...

Also, as it is a bootable disk, perhaps it is better to lock it before uploading, no ?

I need to add some additional files to the page. I will try very soon...

MikeTomTom's picture

the image is not zipped.

It doesn't need to be Smile

.dmg is usually compressed already and often very little is saved by re-compressing it to .zip. Also, Apple's install CD/DVD's consist mostly of highly compressed files.

Plus, not zipping .dmg may be helpful to those who have not so much available disk space. For example, if you additionally zip compress a 4.0GB .dmg and your resulting file is a 3.9GB .zip upload (a saving of only 100 MB), the person downloading that file will need 7.9 GB available disk space to extract the .dmg from the .zip (3.9GB .zip DL + the extracted 4.0GB .dmg). That is, it is more generous in this case not to use zip on .dmg archives.

I am not suggesting however, that you re-upload your zipped .dmg files again as .dmg only Wink

As a rule tho', files that are already compressed such as .dmg, .gz, .rar, etc.; do not require additional zip compression to upload. They are already in a safe archival form.

Many thanks, fogWraith, but, the image is not zipped. Tongue I hope it's not absolutely necessary, as if not, it will be boring to restart the upload. And it appears that the mirror link doesn't works. Sad

I have modified the page subsequently to this add-on...

Very sorry to learn that. Sad I will try myself when my upstream will works well. May be this week, but I need to begin early. Otherwise, we can split the file in two or more parts before upload it.

I know a link for VMWare Fusion 8.0 if it's working with it...

No luck uploading 10.4.7. Feel free to try.

The image bertyboy shared is working fine, installs in VMWare Fusion 3.1.2 quite nice.
If anybody happens to know a link for a matching VMWare Tools image, please let me know.

Should we add also updates (PPC & Universal)

Probably we should, tho' I think you deserve a break from uploading large items for a while Wink

No rush to have any of these things, but if someone else cares to add these, then that is fine too.

Hi there,

I have replaced the "Admin Tools' by a direct downloadable copy from Apple Servers... Should we add also updates (PPC & Universal) from there ? As a large file is quite long to upload, perhaps it should be useful...

OS X 10.4.7 Server DVD (Universal Binary) ... Is it worth the bandwidth to upload ?

Yes, please add it to the archives if you have the time and bw, bertyboy. This would be a much appreciated addition.

You should consider uploading all the (ppc) tiger server updates from apple's site to this page as well. Still, this is pretty cool!

24bit's picture
by 24bit - 2017, March 29 - 9:32pm

10.4.7 Server Universal would be a worthy addition methinks, bertyboy.
If your bandwidth allows uploading, I would be among the first to try. Smile

I once had 10.4.7 Server in VMWare, but dropped it in favour of 10.5 Server.

Hi Bertyboy,

Yes & it was so requested a too long time.

Well, I have not tested this one on this page. Like u, I have not the required hardware for. May be it will be interesting to add your version if everybody is ok. Personally, my bandwidth is not very good & it was very hazardous to add all the images. I think MTT can answer to the question. But I know you have 10.2 & 10.3 too. Theses worth their own pages...

And for those volunteers who wanna test, they are welcome. Also, any useful modifications and/or feedback would be much appreciated on this page. Thanks.

Awesome, and you had the CD version already.
I have an (untested, as I have no hardware to test it on) OS X 10.4.7 Server DVD (Universal Binary). So it would *ONLY* be compatible with Core Solo and Core Duo Mac Mini's and iMacs (not Core 2 Duo from 2007 and later). It may also work on 1st gen Mac Pro (mine is 3rd gen).
Is it worth the bandwidth to upload ?
