Hi!
I've got an original iBook from 1999 without FireWire. I was able to install Tiger on it, even though it is unsupported, but it runs just fine. I realized what I really wanted was to use this Clamshell with its original bundled version of Mac OS. In my case this model shipped with 8.6, which I couldn't find anywhere. An image from another Power Mac, a G3 B&W, updated from 8.5.1 to 8.6, didn't boot...
The problem with 9.0 to 9.0.4 is that it's not fully upgradeable, at least the international language versions. In Mac OS 9.1 Apple included Language Kit. When applying the free update 9.0.4 to 9.1, Language Kit doesn't get installed. Thus, only a full install of 9.1 will get you the full Mac OS 9.1 as it was intended for the international versions. I guess for Mac OS in US English this is of no concern, but for me, using the German version, it would be. At least on principle.
That said, classic Mac OS is always language specific. So I'd rather use any other 9.x I got from other Restore discs in German than this specific version in English.
What I'd really like to know, however, is if there came any interesting bundled software with it? If so, a German Restore disc would be nice... for both the original 1999 Clamshell (without FireWire) as well as for the 2000 Clamshell with FireWire.

There is this set, but it's in English, not German: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/mac-os-86-ibook-g3300-clamshell-original
Not sure where one would find a German version unfortunately.

Glad you liked it
