I was using DVD-R, I transferred the images via HD to the iMac itself and tried to burn them from there.
After burning it recognises them as blank. I think the drive itself is to blame. It can't seem to read brunt DVD's, but can play audio CD's and video DVD's just fine.
@res6jya6: These are CD images, not DVD. But I can't offer any suggestion as a solution for JunkRat, either.
I may have accidentally replied to the thread rather than your specific comment - make sure you are using DVD-R discs as DVD+R is not recognized in the iMac G4 models.
What type of media did you use? The iMac G4 can only recognize DVD-R discs, not DVD+R...
Hmmm. I burnt these using a 2016 MacBook Pro with the external superdrive. Everything went smooth and I can read them on the MacBook.
However, when I move across to the iMac, it seems to recognise them as blank CD's!!! Any ideas?
Anything for immaculate preservation.
Yes. Thanks for the re-imaged files z970! Very much appreciated to get these.
We have success! It won't boot off of a USB drive but burning the first OS X install disc allowed me to install the entire chain of following discs I'd already burned! Thank you very much for archiving these. It's incredibly helpful for me.
All fixed.
@z970: Thanks for looking into it. - Set to CD Master if using the Disk Utility to rip, would be nice.
Sorry guys, inexperience is to blame for this one.
I'll regenerate the images again as soon as I can, this time set to 'read-only'!
Well, that absolutely stinks... I may have managed to source these from a guy here in Sweden. He's promised to image them and send the images to me over the weekend. I'll try putting them on a USB drive and install from there before I spend any more CDs, though... If they do end up working I'll make sure to upload them!
There may be an issue with this install set being unusable.
When creating the images, the person who created them had allowed the image to be mounted onto a desktop, unlocked. - So the Finder has written to the image with modified date and time stamps, etc.

This tends to make an OS X install disc unusable as a start-up disc.
I mention "image" singular, as I only looked at Install Disc 1 (which is the all important bootable disc image here).
It does not appear to be bootable and was rejected (spat out of the drive) when I attempted to start up from it.
Likely, these (or at the very least, this one) should be done again and replaced.
Anyone else able to confirm whether or not these images are working?
I gave up on the original OS X install images and decided to install Tiger instead. I've burned and run the Software Restore discs on Tiger and they do practically nothing. The first disc installs a software restore application. It asks me to insert a disc with a certain symbol (disc one in this case). I do that and absolutely nothing happens. These images are a waste of time and discs, unfortunately. Nothing here works when burned or mounted. Get a classic system folder elsewhere.
The OS X Install discs didn't work on mine. It won't show up in the boot menu nor will it boot from them from within OS X or by holding C during power on. Anyone have any ideas as to why?
