This is the first Freehand release from Macromedia; FreeHand version 5.0 with updaters 5.0.1 and 5.0.2.
This archive contains the floppy installation version of FreeHand 5.0.x imaged back in the day. Unfortunately, I no longer have these original diskettes, but I do have the images (hence the Disk Copy 6.3.3 format). Hopefully this helps folks.
Serial required: 10250-0397-4374-13083
See also: Aldus FreeHand 1.0, Aldus FreeHand 2.0, Aldus FreeHand 3.x, Aldus FreeHand 4.0, Macromedia FreeHand 5.5, Macromedia FreeHand 7 (German), Macromedia FreeHand Graphics Studio 7, Macromedia FreeHand 8, Macromedia FreeHand 9, Macromedia FreeHand 10, Macromedia FreeHand MX (11.0.x)
Compatibility[*] The recommended RAM setting for FreeHand 5.0 is 8MB but with a Mac II's (Mini vMac II) memory ceiling of 8MB total RAM, this is not doable. I find that reducing the default RAM allocation for FreeHand 5.0 from 8MB to 6MB when running it in Mini vMac, is OK.
INSTALLING FREEHAND 5.0 ON SYSTEM 6
When installing on System 6, an inordinate amount of disk swapping is called for. To get around this just drag the files from each installation disk into a folder on your hard disk. Double-click the first Installer segment to begin the installation. When finished, delete the “FreeHand 5.0 Installer.x” files to get your hard disk space back.— Tip: From enclosed "ReadMe" doc
Comments
Article from contemporary magazine added (MacFormat April 1995).
This issue has comics on the Mac as its theme and is worth a read if you are contemplating composing comics on old Macs.
Thanks again. The Disk Copy 6 images had been created using a Disk Copy 6 Compressed format, so were no good as a drop-in to an emulator's GUI, nor could be mounted in a System 6 environment.
As this version is still capable of running in SSW 6, I converted the images to Disk Copy 4.2 format and compressed into a StuffIt 3.6 ".sit" archive, and is now backwards compatible for System 6 and newer.
Ive added it as a 2nd DL, above.
Just when I thought we had a complete set!
Thanks again.
Thanks for this addition, blackholemac.
