For System 7.0 - 7.6 - Mac OS 9
Emulation
This app works with: SheepShaver, Basilisk II,

A control panel that allows you to adjust the Finder's memory starting size, since this can't be done
in the "Get Info" window Apple provides.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC

It is NOT recommended that you use Finder Heap Fix to reduce the
starting size for your Finder. If your reduce the size too
low, then you may be unable to restart.

In specific, we decreased the Mac OS 8.1 Finder size from the
default 917K down to 800K. The result was that we were unable to
restart, being presented with a "not enough memory to start the Finder"
message on restart. To fix the problem, we had to restart from a CD and
use a resource editor to restore the "SIZE" resource values (see Other Notes #3).

Other Notes:

1) The "Finder Heap Fix" Control Panel is non-resident. This
means that it only consumes a bit of disk space by storing
it in your Control Panels folder (no system resources).
2) The Control Panel
may be stored in, and run from, any folder, including the
Control Panels folder. It changes your "Finder" file, and
thus the effects will stick even if you discard Finder
Heap Fix.
3) The "current" size referred to in "Finder Heap Fix" is
a synonym to the "preferred" or "starting" size shown
in the Finder "Get Info". This is actually the "Preferred
Partition Size", which is bytes 3-6, in the "SIZE"
resource of the Finder (specifies how much memory the
system should reserve for an application).
