Guides on emulating older applications

Released in November 1987, Fastback For The Macintosh seems to have remained in use until about 1990.

Top DL: Fastback For The Macintosh v1.3 (Aug, 10, 1988)

Imaged from a (modified) commercial copy (400k diskette). Disk Copy 4.2, StuffIt 5.5, BinHex 4.0.

2nd DL: FastBack For The Macintosh v1.02

The disk image was made from a user-created floppy disk using Disk Copy 4.2. The StuffIt file was created on a modern Mac with StuffIt in legacy format, so it'll need to be unstuffed on a higher level machine (probably OS 9).

"Since it was requested, I'm uploading this handmade backup I found in my collection. (HL in the title is my code for "hand lettered" disk.) I hope it will be useful until a proper commercial copy shows up.

The disk came to me at some point in the past - all I know is that I found it in my disk collection and archived it along with every other working floppy I own."

3rd DL: Same as 2nd DL above, but as a StuffIt 1.5.1 archive for compatibility with very old Macs.

The help screens recommends against using MultiFinder.

It is advised to use v2 or Fastback Plus when using with any OS after System 6.

Fastback v1.x may not operate in emulation due to the use of a custom floppy disk driver.

Found a diskette on ebay, took a chance, and was able to image it. Turns out it's version 1.3!

Hi there,

I've uploaded an archive of the folder for you. It's a StuffIt 1.5.1 version (for timestamp & compatibility). However, I have tested it with all emulators & I have the same results. I can confirm that it should work only with a Mac Plus or Macs of the same period...

Due to hardware issues with my Plus I'm unable to do much with it, but I was able to confirm that this copy of Fastback 1.02 will run on a Mac Plus running System 6.0.3. Thank you again!

Command-shift-3 should work as in any Mac.

I have a Plus too, so I will have to try as well. Is there an easy way to take a screenshot from System 6?

Hmm, interesting. I’ll have to try it on my Plus. That will give me a chance to fix the sit file too.

Hmm, can't seem to get this to actually run in Mini vMac, everything comes to a standstill. Have tried with different builds and systems, and made sure to turn off MultiFinder in System 6, but it just freezes up (cursor still moves however).

Interestingly, it does sort of open in Basilisk II running 7.6, although it's just a status window stating that the program doesn't recognize the computer.
