Guides on emulating older applications

DragThing is an application dock designed to tidy up the icons littering your desktop. Simply drag an application from the Finder onto an empty square in a dock and then drag documents onto it as normal. Double-click a docked application to launch it or bring it to the front. In addition, the docks can contain files, folders, disks and servers, and there is also an option to display the currently running processes in a special dock.

DragThing also has the ability to store and organise Internet URLs in docks and you can double-click them to open the URL with an appropriate helper application. You can drag URLs into any dock and edit them, and also import and export docks as HTML.

The provided serials seem to work, but after a few restarts, the registration dialog reappears and I have to re-enter the serial #'s.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Have you found a solution?

Since he's decided to stop selling DragThing licenses at all (and doesn't want to open source it), I wonder if James Thomson would consider releasing a serial number as a final, last hurrah.

I'm no fan of DragThing (glorious FinderPop 1.9.2 all the way, baby). However, I'm a fan of archival and people having a choice. Hence:

This link currently contains the latest versions of DragThing for each Mac OS / Mac OS X version and architecture. For PPC Mac OS users, DragThing 4.6.1 is what you will likely want. We ought to upload these here someday, in case the website disappears.

Being a registered DragThing 5.x user, unfortunately I must read at the DragThing developer's page:

DragThing is written using the 32-bit Carbon APIs that Apple have announced they will remove in the next major update of macOS after 10.14 Mojave, most likely in September 2019.

While we have not yet made a final decision, we do not feel comfortable selling an app with an uncertain future, so DragThing is no longer for sale.

Personally, I would like to see it continued, as I will miss the KlickStarter functionality seen in Mac OS 7.5 and above.

This is amazing. I use it all the time on Mac OS 9.

This is indispensible on my iBook. James Thomson is a genius, and I believe he helped Apple with their Dock (I remember a CV of his that predates OSX).
