This is the Australian/New Zealand (English language) release of ClarisWorks 4.0CAv2, & was the first ClarisWorks version release to be named "ClarisWorks Office".

It was also the 3rd software version release of ClarisWorks to be ported to the Windows platform. It will run on 32bit Windows, 95 to XP.

Documents created with ClarisWorks v4.0 on Windows & ClarisWorks v4.0 on the Macintosh are interchangeable. That is, you can create a ClarisWorks document on Windows and edit it on a Macintosh computer or vice versa, without need for conversion when using the same ClarisWorks versions on either platform.

There are two install sets contained in the zipped archive; The copy of ClarisWorks (inside the "easy-install" folder), was a free promotional release, issued on the cover CD of the magazine, "Australian PC Authority" March issue, 1998. It was offered as a sweetener for the forth-coming release of ClarisWorks 5 for Windows. Macintosh users were not offered an equivalent "sweetener".

The other included install set of ClarisWorks (inside the "disk-images" folder), are of the original 1.4MB floppy disk installation set of ClarisWorks (Australian/New Zealand release) version 4.0v2 for Windows.

They are otherwise identical, and both are full installation sets.

For info regarding the installation of either, view the "ReadMe.txt" documents located in each of the enclosed "disk-images" & "easy-install" folders.

Other Windows versions: ClarisWorks 1, ClarisWorks 3, ClarisWorks 5, AppleWorks 5, AppleWorks 6

Architecture: x86 (Windows)

For Windows 95 & NT. Runs fine on 32bit Windows up to & including Windows XP. This version may run OK on newer Windows OS's, but this has not been tested by me.

I've now installed it on my XP box

It may sound odd but my choice of "Works" on Mac OS's 7 - 9 is ClarisWorks version 4.0v6, but on Windows its version 5.0v2. Based purely on how they each look and perform on those platforms.

Of the later versions, AppleWorks 6.x to me works & looks best on OS X, on Windows it just looks silly. Version 5 on the Mac is OK, but to me it looks a little "out of place" with its tack-on ribbon bar. On Windows the version 5 ribbon bar looks like it belongs and actually helps make it look and work great as a Works type program.
