From the Before Dark Read Me:

Before Dark

In keeping with my NO INIT's or CDEV's philosophy here is a Mac OS 7 clean application to collect and install desktop patterns (ppat resource's)...

Before Dark Features:
1. 30 HIGH QUALITY desktop patterns created by several professional graphic designers.
2. No CDEVs or INITs.
3. up to 128 by 128 pixel pattern size.
4. Imports ppat resources out of any file.
5. Balloon help.
6. Installs patterns without having to mess with ResEdit or rebooting.
7. Smart Window remembers it's position on screen (and multiple monitors).
8. Ability to delete unwanted ppats from database.
9. Comment feature lets you name patterns.
10. And more...

It is very straight forward, use balloon help to find out the option clicks and shortcuts...

Architecture: 68k

Runs on any Mac that can run Mac OS 7.0 or newer. This software is obsoleted by Mac OS 7.5's own "Desktop Patterns" Control Panel's app and more recent. However, any of the ppat resources from Before Dark can be extracted with ResEdit and used in later Mac OS desktop utilities. Perhaps "Before Dark" runs on Mini vMac or Sheepshaver but is untested, plus it is of little use to vMac's mono display - Works great on Basilisk II.

In some instances on Basilisk II, if running Mac OS 7.5 to 7.5.5, the Mac's built-in Desktop Patterns do not seem to work at all. If that happens to you, then you can use "Before Dark" instead, which does not have this problem.

We used to have that app on Mac OS 7.5... wow it's been a while! O.o

This utility was obsoleted with the introduction of SSW 7.5 which introduced the "Desktop Patterns" Control Panels utility for the 1st time. It was/is useful as a desktop patterns tool in Mac 7.x systems prior to 7.5.

There were similar utilities to this around the same time, which also used ppat resources.

My favorite of this type tho', is Chameleon by the same author (linked above).
