Released late in 1988, Aldus FreeHand 2.0 was a milestone release from its predecessor, FreeHand 1.0 (also released earlier that same year). Improving on the features of FreeHand 1.0, FreeHand 2.0 added a floating tools palette, flexible fill patterns, Pantone colors, stroked text, import graphics from other programs. It also added accurate control over a color monitor screen display, limited only by its resolution.

Both disk sets disk images made from (MCP's) original media. The 2nd DL above, US English install set, consists of Disk Copy 4.2 floppy images compressed as StuffIt 3.6 .sit archive for better backwards compatibility.

CompatibilityInstalled and tested OK¹ on Basilisk II (System 7.1) and Mini vMac (Mac II emulation), Systems 6.0.8 and 7.1
Read Me docs recommend SSW 6.0.2 or later. This may run on later (than 7.1) Mac OS's but not tested by this user.
Note:¹ I encountered errors with installing under 6.0.8 and 7.1 (on Mini vMac), where the installer Quits on Install disk one - see error message, screenshot 4, above.
However, it creates on your HD a folder named "Aldus FreeHand 2.0" and installs all necessary files from the "Install" disk into that folder. Simply copy the contents from the remaining mounted disk images; "Portfolio" and "Program" into the installed FreeHand 2.0 folder, and you are good to go.
I don't know if the same errors would be encountered on actual hardware (I think it's expecting actual floppy disk insertion), but if they do it's not fatal.

Added self running demo of FreeHand 2.0
By design, this illustration program really held its own..you said it best, it's familiar, so it just 'feels right'.
Cool, cbone. I didn't "discover" FreeHand until the mid '90's... and never saw this one until it showed up here at the Garden.
Even now I sometimes use later versions of FH on PPC Macs. I don't know if it's because of familiarity but I still prefer it over other vector programs.
Nice addition, Mike. I remember this title in school running on older systems, as well as the updated vers 3 which i used to help design some software box designs
