For Mac OS X
Guides on emulating older applications

Lightweight word processor from the Linux world. Easier to master than its professional counterparts. AbiWord has the ability to import/export files in .doc and .odt formats. This is the final version for MacOSX since development has been totally stopped twelve years ago for this platform. Free, open-source, and multilingual.

Architecture: PPC

Minimum requirements (excerpted from "README.html" file):
"AbiWord for MacOSX is currently developed on MacOSX 10.3, but release builds should work on MacOSX 10.2 as well."

Tested with MacOSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard w/Rosetta. It is working but with some annoying issues: text rendering is awful on screen as well as on PDF (exported files are OK, however), impossible to change the interface language (English only), toolbar strip disappears when maximizing window (green window button), etc. Bugs, incompatibilities, or configuration issues?

BTW, I have read what some of you have written about AbiWord:

Despite of its bad reputation, AbiWord deserve to have a place here in the Garden because of its importance as a major open-source project. It is a fact that its Linux and Windows siblings are of a much better quality (very good, indeed) and that made the overall project a success.
