Guides on emulating older games

This is the third game in the popular Unreal Tournament series.

The 1st to 4th downloads are the parts of the zipped disc image of the game DVD

The 5th download is the final patch (3369.2) that updates the game application to a Universal Binary and includes the Epic Mega Pack, as well as some fixes. This update will install over any previous retail version, but will not upgrade the UT2004 demo, nor any version of UT2003.

The 6th download is an updated installer that is only needed if the original installer unexpectedly quits after entering the CD key.

A mounted UT2004 DVD is required to install the game, so you will need to burn a DVD from the disc image. The version uploaded here also requires that the game DVD to be mounted for the game to play; however, this requirement disappears after applying the updater.

The CD key is in the manual.

FYI, if anyone is interested I can verify that the universal binary works all the way from Mac OS Leopard on PPC macs up to Mac OS Mojave on Intel. I'm using the same installation on my powerbook G4 and my Intel Macbook Pro.

So, I will download all the parts myself & see what happens with them...

I have DL all the parts & reassembled them. Then, I have unzipped the file & it works normally. So, I can confirm there is no problem with it.

For the record, I originally zipped and split the archive using BetterZip, and you can reverse the process (join and uncompress) by dragging part 1 onto the BetterZip icon and choosing "Extract" from the BetterZip menu.

Many thanks for your help, the command copy /b U*.* , worked at the first try on windows.
You're awesome, I will finally be able to play UT2004 Smile

You could try joining the parts before unzipping.

Split&Concat works well for this on Mac OS.

HJSplit on Windows works very well - I prefer the Java version hjsplit_g.jar (137 Kb), which is a no-install and portable, runs on any OS that support Java virtual machine.

Alternatively, use a command-line to join the parts before unzipping;

Have all parts together in the same folder or directory and using Terminal in OS X (cd into that location), enter from the command-line:

cat U*.* >

Wait a minute or so for cat to finish (the full prompt returns) then close the terminal and then use your usual zip archive tool to decompress the zip.

Or; from a DOS Command-line on Windows, use copy /b. - As above, cd into that location and enter:

copy /b U*.*

Hit Enter and wait until the prompt returns, then Quit the CL and use your usual zip archive tool to decompress the zip.

Hopefully the part files aren't corrupted (I see below that there were issues with this archive mentioned by another user).

All four parts (.001 - .004) need to be in the same location (such as inside a folder or desktop) before you attempt to extract the complete archive. All of the programs you have tried so far should be able to extract the .zip content from these part files.

If I try to decompress it on my windows pc, with winrar a have a error saying that the file is corrupt, with 7zip "unexpected end of data".
O my powermac with mac os x 10.5.1 using the Unarchiver, the error message is, "unable to extract the file, Unreal Tournament 2004.toast, unknown file type

You can use The Unarchiver to decompress it. If you get in trouble with the parts, just let us know what's happens for you. In that case, more informations could be useful like your configuration or any details... Wink

Yes, very excited to see this!
I was able to mount the image with Toast (Titanium 5) and install from that, so I didn't have to burn a disc.

But, I had a huge amount of trouble decompressing the ZIP and ending up with a valid image. 10.4 and 10.5 didn't seem to recognize the ZIP file (either 'unzip' on the command line or the Finder). Using StuffIt Expander just gave me a slightly corrupt image. Finally ended up using 7zip on my Solaris server to uncompress it.
This could all be a problem with my HW/SW though.
