Guides on emulating older games

Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies, first announced and released in June 2005 at Apple Inc.'s Worldwide Developers Conference as a Mac OS X-exclusive game engine aiming to "democratize" game development by making it accessible to more developers. The next year, Unity was named runner-up in the Best Use of Mac OS X Graphics category in Apple Inc.'s Apple Design Awards. Unity was initially released for Mac OS X, later adding support for Microsoft Windows and Web browsers.

Unity 3.0 launched in September 2010 with features expanding the engine's graphics features for desktop computers and video game consoles. In addition to Android support, Unity 3 featured integration of Illuminate Labs' Beast Lightmap tool, deferred rendering, a built-in tree editor, native font rendering, automatic UV mapping, and audio filters, among other things.

This download includes some of the Techdemo apps provided by the Unity 2 & 3 Game SDKs and the official Unity webpage, compiled for Mac OS X 10.4 Intel & PPC Macs. This includes : Bootcamp, Islands Demo, Sewer Demo, 3rd Person Shooter, Avert Fate, the Action Game Angry Bots, and the Mothhead Demo.

Architecture: PPC x86 (Intel:Mac)

I've removed the large 7zip file for convenience reasons and added separate dmgs for each Techdemo instead.

Feel free to add stuff to the page yourself if you have any improvements or additional info that i missed.

Avert Fate and Islands Demo - running in OSX 10.3.9 (but not 10.3.n). That makes Unity Player v2.x for 10.3.9 and Unity Player 3.0+ for Tiger min.

Should the engine be "Unity 3D"? All material I see online suggests just "Unity". If you click on your "Unity 3D" engine, then it doesn't list all the games already on garden that're declared "Unity".

I changed the minimum requirement to Tiger. Release dates vary for each game obviously. If you check the wayback machine you can see that Avert Fate was featured as a Demo download on the Unity website back in 2008/9 so I'd leave it in the collection.

AngryBots and Mothhead (both Unity v3.5+) are the only ones needing Intel and Leopard. The others are all TIGER UB and are playing on my PPC MirrorDoor with ATI9600 & Tiger (Server 10.4.11). Two are marked Unity v3.4 and will play Tiger PPC. In Tiger, Bootcamp is hanging after showing just one 3D frame on my PowerMac but runs on my intel Mac.

Avert Fate looks like a year 2007 game in it's own right, not part of a collection of demos? All the others were compiled Jan 2013 except Mothhead Nov 2012, so after putting Avert Fate on it's own page, this would be a year 2012/2013 collection? How did you (@thedoctor45) obtain the 2009 description?

btw nice work getting these.

Yeah, Unity started as a Mac OS X Panther exclusive with support for reasonably fast G3s. It even won a runner up Apple Design Award despite being based on Microsoft-leaning C# infra (Mono).

Of course Flash 2 won an ADA way back in the day, which nobody really remembers anymore. Smile

Most of them support PPC but not all - it seems the Unity 3.X exclusive Demos only run on Intel 10.5

I found a couple more Unity 2.X demo projects on the Internet Archive tho which I'm planning to compile and upload.

Cool stuff. Smile Surprised to see PPC support on this. Will give it a spin on the Quad G5.

Thanks for sharing!
