Total Distortion... now where oh where to begin with this one

You are a music video producer, taking a gamble in the distortion dimension to scoop up some material for your music videos. The adventure part of the game sees you exploring the dimension while the music video editing section of the game sees you fiddling around with what can only be described as iMovie on LSD.

Compare it to the other multimedia adventures of the time, and you will see Total Distortion has a real USP. There is humour littered around, plenty of puzzles to keep you thinking and a collection of some very daft minigames. Overall, well worth you time if your looking for something different.

For PC (Windows 3.1/95) and Mac OS 6.0.7 to 9.2.2

Architecture: 68k PPC

System requirements Mac:

• Faster processors tend to run the mini-games at very difficult speeds, this game is not particularly suitable for newer machines (G3 up)

System requirements PC:
80486, Windows 3.1, 8 MB RAM, 2x CD-ROM drive.

crashes? i dunno whats going on there with you, i've just downloaded it, de-compressed (stuffit 11.0.2) it and its mounted fine

Contact of mine de-compressed it in Stuffit Destinations 15 and that was fine too

The img is definitely broken. Stuffit crashes in OS X when unstuffing it and Sheepshaver tanks completely when it completes unstuffing. The resulting .img file won't open in DiskCopy or Shrinkwrap. Can't do a thing with it.

If you can't make a .toast, just make a CD/DVD master image with Disk Utility in OS X. Then people can simply burn the disk and use it on a physical Mac or an emulator like Sheepshaver.

as far as i'm aware i followed standard instructions with this image, first time i made one but it definitely works on physical macs. If no one else manages it before, I'll see if i can find some time this coming sunday to make a .toast of it, but no promises (i plan to be very hungover)

It might be a ShrinkWrap image. Get it from here and try and mount the img with that.

Can this work at all with Sheepshaver?I can't seem to do anything with the image. It won't recognise the .img file mounted as a drive, or in Diskcopy inside the emulator.

Any help with this or an upload as a .toast image would be most appreciated.

iMovie on LSD

LOL. That seems to put the screen shots into words rather nicely. Smile

This game is very much a product of its time, it references a lot of sub genres of alternative music that at the point of release, were rapidly becoming very niche. Especially in the UK with the rise of Brit-Pop, alternative tastes like this felt very dated. I think that was felt across the whole of Europe which lead to that region being so critically scathing. Did ok in the US tho
