Guides on emulating older games

This is a Japan-only upgraded version of Typing Of The Dead which was also released on Windows. The upgrades include new minigames and a new feature where you can compete against a clone of yourself. The Mac version also has the characters carrying compact Macs on their backs. One of the very few titles that Sega released specifically for Macs in Japan. Released August 30, 2007.

Unfortunately the Mac version is a very sloppy port job with graphical errors and horrendous framerates on my 1.6Ghz G4. You may want a G5 or Intel Mac for this one.

Mount the DVD and then copy the タイピングラリアット application to your hard drive, then use the application on the included update patch to update. No DVD burning or mounting is required to play.

Compatibility between PPC and Intel saved games
Playing on an OS upgraded system

OS 10.4 Tiger through 10.14 Mojave
PPC G4/G5 1.6GHz or Intel Mac 1.3GHz
512GB RAM (1GB recommended)
1GB hard drive space

The particular updater patch now is v1.03 and works for me on PPC. I crashed (unexpected quit) the game 1.0 by playing without the patch.

What is the other tiny little app on the CD ? (It's entirely Japanese so I'm clueless as to what it is). Not the patch outside the toast but, the very small app inside the toast image ? (nevermind)

I'm using a G4 1.58 GHz with ATi Radeon 9600 and I see no slowing-down, none. I even jacked the game display up to 1600x1200 and have played multiple zombies multiple everything on screen at once. It's perfectly smooth here. No sloppiness or graphical errors either, as told in the description here. Must say my machine is the secretive G5 proto motherboard, this must be more proof of that.

Page description has system requirements correct except for one thing: the book states intel core duo 1.6 GHz not intel single 1.3 GHz. If someone changed this text because they were able to run it, I could do the same lowering the requirements for G4 - not that I would, I'm saying the intel requirements here are misrepresented.

Wikipedia page for this has zero knowledge of this Mac OS release. None, cool huh. And what's with all the names? "Zombie Da!" seems meaningless and doesn't appear anywhere. And same with "Typing Lariat". This game shows and speaks its title "Typing of the Dead", not Typing Lariat. Search for Typing Lariat yields nada. This game creates its Preferences file using the name "TypingLariat" but many games often freak up their own names for the sake of Preferences. Maybe someone mistook this to be the name and renamed the game files this way?

Edit- the smallish applet is solely for network play, by examining its coded contents. Anyway, the icon for this second applet makes the cord of the keyboard look like a lasso (lariat). Perhaps "Typing Lariat" is a reference to just this networking option, nothing else.

This game is great!! All of the voices are in English and the typing is also on an English Keyboard. To install first drag the "タイピングラリアット" application to your hard drive and then run the "TypingLariat for Mac Update 103" program, which will open a window with an orange Japanese Kanji character on your desktop. Grab the "タイピングラリアット" application that you just installed on your hard drive and drop it onto the Orange Kanji to upgrade the application to version 1.3 and then it's ready to run!! Very fun and is running perfectly on my 10.14.6 Mojave MacBook Pro just fine!!

This has some problems like the Puyo Puyo Fever entry. The patching program seems to have had the filenames for all of its binaries corrupted in the process of packaging, it won't work on Intel or PowerPC Macs because of that.

I'm going to replace the updater in the .zip file because that problem is easy to correct. Done. The update seems to fix fullscreen mode so it's nice to have.

The performance problem noted above is definitely an issue on PowerPC. A 1.5 GHz G4 stutters at seconds per frame once multiple zombies are on screen.

I don't see any problems on Intel Macs though, given a decent GPU. It could be merely a bad port on the PowerPC side.
