This is a fresh 2019 transcription of a classic and wonderful 1985 "choose your own adventure" story entitled "The Forbidden Towers" by Carol Gaskin. In this story, you are Lifin, a spirited young elf tasked with saving his village from a unique elven plague by locating a special herb that only grows in the center of the Forbidden Towers. As Lifin, you will face many choices and many dangers. Will you begin your journey in the Tower of Bones, the Tower of Hands, the Tower of Eaters, the Tower of Beasts, or the Tower of Spiders? Will you end up in more than one? Can you save your village or will you perish?

Compatibility

This application was crafted in Hypercard 2.4.1 on a native / bare metal Mac OS 9.2.2 installation. It should run on any machine that can run Hypercard.

i also think it would be much more impressive (not to mention accurate) to put the release date as 2019, instead of 1985.

Thanks for the info and of course for testing it! I wasn’t to aware of the resource fork concept, but then again back when I was using Macs with software like this, it’s not like I was downloading or transferring stuff over the web. Stuff I took to school was usually only documents. Anyway, cheers sir.

SIT and HQX should be fine.
The SEA you pointed to could be extracted on my side by The Unarchiver (macOS) without issues.

Users with non Mac files systems may have issues with "naked" files or bare IMGs as resource forks are always lost.
The mighty server hosting Macintoshgarden, its not aware of Mac resource files either. Wink

Thanks for your work transforming this oldie!
I´m not a gamer, so I will hardly play through your game myself, others will sure appreciate it.

I have followed your advice and revised the upload. I feel funny because I've been working with this stuff since I was a kid and I was thinking the contents of a read-only image file would be safe and sound. It's not the contents though, it's reading the image file itself. I was unaware transferring over either modern systems or otherwise would effect how the Mac OS would deal with the actual file. I guess after all these years you can still learn something. I used both features of dropstuff 4.5 to create a sit and a binhex of the diskcopy img just to ensure compatibility. Should be good now yes? Thank you for the help good sir.

Later HyperCard versions are PowerPC as well, that's true.

But please make sit archives of img files before uploading, to not destroy its resource fork,
to let the Mac OS know what file it is.
