Cliff Johnson's breakthrough debut: a "meta-puzzle" that weaves dozens of nested challenges into a storyline and an ultimate solution.

the_fools_errand_original.sit contains Disk Copy 4.2 images of the two original 800K disks (v2.0), compressed with StuffIt 4. Also added a scan of the disks. These require B&W.

foolserrand_400k_dsk.zip contains DiskDup+ images of the three original 400K disks (v1.1), compressed with MacZip.

A self-published sequel, The Fool and His Money, was released in 2012 and is available through the author's website.

Cliff must have meant "soundtrack" in the original, literal sense: all of the sound effects in the game, which are made up of synthesized tones.

So, question...is there a soundtrack to this thing? This statement is on Cliff Johnson's website: "The Fool’s Errand soundtrack was created with Synthesizer Sounds from the Sound Manager.
Then Apple dropped Synthesizer Sounds with the introduction of System 7 -- yes, that long ago."

I played through the whole game and never heard anything like that. It was in Mini vMac, but I've never heard anyone else mention a soundtrack in The Fool's Errand, either. And I would really doubt that Cliff Johnson is wrong about this...right? I'm a little befuddled right now. I guess I would need Sound Manager, but, wouldn't that be built into 6.0.8? Or is that an external thing I need to install?

The download is now wrapped into a Ready-to-use Disk image, just to be added to the emulator's drives list or simply dragged onto the Mini vMac window to mount it.

The game runs particularly in Mac OS 9, but its menu names doesn't display the original text, so the best play is up to Mac OS 8.
