This game works with: Basilisk II, Mini vMac

Like all "Golden Age" first person perspective polygon-based software, "The Colony" ROCKS!! Plus, it was written by ONE person [David Smith] -- when artisans *cared* about the software & each game was individually & lovingly handcrafted. PLAY THIS GAME

Play a 3D First Person shooter on a Mac Plus (or better a Mac II)? This is possibly the very first 3D First Person Action shooter with a great plot, a captivating atmosphere that reminds "Space 1999" with a zest of "Aliens". Awesome! Plays best on a B/W 9'' screen, but doesn't support many machines.

Top DL: "" - The Colony in mono + extras

2nd DL: "the-colony-color.sit" - The Colony in color
The color version was sourced from this "Le Grenier du Mac" page. It plays well on a Mac II running SSW 6 including the Mini vMac II emulator.

Also available for Amiga and DOS.

David Alan Smith has written an entertaining memoir of the game's development at his blog.

Manual: PDF containing codes used throughout game. - sourced via the "Le Grenier du Mac" page.

Architecture: 68k

For people having a problem setting to 1 bit mode - please use an emulator such as Mini vMac.

It's covered in the Wikipedia entry for The Colony, but it's worth mentioning here.

This game's author, David Alan Smith, did a short video walkthrough of this game. In two parts:

This is really fascinating to watch, not only for short development anecdotes like how he got fast rotation on the compact Mac, but for the war stories and things he wish he didn't do.

Hope it works on Mini vMac!

The color version works very well in the Mini vMac "Mac II" alpha.

Like Breach, I wasted a lot of time in college playing this game. Loved it! Hope it works on Mini vMac!

The existing .zip file is OK, it includes some extra stuff + disk image of the game.
