This game works with: Basilisk II,

Stardust is a brilliant puzzle game based on a few simple rules, but becomes very complex by the end of 50 levels. You start at the entrance portal and must manipulate your surroundings by creating and removing blocks, or "Stardust", in order to get to the exit.

A Windows port was later created and is archived here as the second download.

Nope. I'm still using a CRT display and the graphics are hopelessly dim on it even at full brightness.

Possibly it's due to the less sharp displays around when the games was created - perhaps the blurring made things easier to see, but my guess is that the graphics designer was simply a fool (one of those arty-types who doesn't understand usability). I did overhaul some of the graphics and it made it much easier to see.

i believe it has to do with playing it on an LCD vs CRT. back in ~2002 when i first got a mac with an LCD screen i noticed immediately that the game seemed very dim. i'm pretty sure the graphics were designed for CRT.

Some anti virus programs have a problem with DropBox downloads, that's probably the case here. That being said I'm glad you found a much better source for these games. I checked the md5 of my exe against that site and it is identical so its the same version I have, which should be the latest ever released.

My browser won't let me download that Dropbox file, claiming it contains a virus or malware. Probably a false positive, but I've replaced it with the archive from this site (which raises no such alarms).

OK, I added the Windows v1.1 version that you provided on dropbox !

In the past I posted that the windows version, which is still the newest to my knowledge, could be obtained through archive.org, unfortunately someone has purchased the old domain name, and archive.org is obeying the new robots.txt, thus blocking the entire history on the site.

Unfortunately I do not have his other games from the old site, but I zipped up the latest Stardust for Win and tossed it up here: [link removed]

Quite a nice little game, but the graphics are awful. It's near impossible to see anything on my computer even with the brightness / contrast tweaked as much as possible (even the screenshots above are basically black screens). In the end I had to use ResEdit to copy the graphics into a paint program and lighten them WAY up before pasting back into the application. Looks like it may be a Christmas holiday task of re-doing the graphics into something usable. Smile

Very moody, even horrific. The simple graphics stand the test of time and make this one of the best Mac shareware games ever.
