Emulation
Guides on emulating older games

Be the mayor of a real-time city simulation. Become the master of existing cities such as San Francisco, Tokyo, and Rio de Janeiro, or create your own dream city (or dream slum) from the ground up.

1st download: SimCity 1.11, original 1989 release b&w version as Disk Copy 4.2 images. Needs System 6.0.2 or newer and 1MB memory, e.g. a Mac Plus. Includes the 2nd floppy from the box, "Serveur Apple Assistance". Compressed with StuffIt 3.5.2. Find the copy protection sheets below in the manuals section.

2nd download: CityBank - a tool that allows editing the funds of your city. (for 1989 release, untested with later ones)

3rd download: SimCity Editor - allows to edit almost every aspect of your city, from average land value to external market size to (finally) pollution levels! (for 1989 release, untested with later ones)

4th download: SimCity v1.4 from 1992. Final B&W version and first color version. Color version requires 16 colors or 16 grays and 2 MB RAM. Includes TerrainEdit 1.3. Compressed with StuffIt 3.5.2.

5th download: SimCity Enhanced from 1995, MacPlay release. Original game + new QuickTime movies. Needs 256 colors & 32-bit addressing.

6th download: SimCity Classic v.1.5 from 1996, preinstalled, (FAT application, both 68k and PPC according to NativeChecker)

7th download: Update for SimCity Classic 1.4 and 1.4c to version 2.0. Will make SimCity work on Macs that couldn't run 16 colours (now supporting 256). May run slower on older machines like LCs, Mac IIs, ... so don't bother updating.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k PPC

@lillipution: The only suggestion I can think of here, is to upload your game's disk image[s] to this page, and place a notice in the "Calling all hackers list" page, asking for some help with this rather nasty disk protection.

Thank you, but this is 1.1, not 1.11. It uses a disk verification copy protection scheme whereby you are asked to insert the disk when launching the program. Unfortunately, it doesn't accept the original disk as legitimate.

For SimCity 1.11, you'll find the copy protection sheets here https://web.archive.org/web/20210205165412/https://magisterrex.wordpress...

I have acquired the North American 1.1 release published by Brøderbund (with "Godzilla" on the cover). The disks mounted and read beautifully and I was able to image them without a hitch.

However, the copy protection scheme is such that it wants you to insert the "original" SimCity diskette in order to authorize the installation, even if the disk is already inserted. In other words, it doesn't see the official disk as being "original", and you end up in a loop of requesting, and subsequently ejecting, the SimCity diskette. Even attempting to play straight from disk, including on a Mac Plus (as opposed to my LC III) results in the same problem.

Any suggestions?

I only had bulldozing sound on my 630 with 1.3 as well, i figured it was a system specific bug. Now i'm wondering if its the only sound they put in.

The thing that irritates me the most when playing this on an actual SE is that total absence of sound. Except for bulldozing there is absolute silence. Other than that, amazing game considering it came out in 1989.
