Nice to see the Windows version of SimAnt here as well. Thank you very much for uploading this piece of software. Smile

By popular demand (!), the 1996 Maxis "Collector's Series" CD-ROM has been uploaded this Halloween night. Beware, it is a pure waste of bandwidth. Be afraid, be very afraid.

BTW, I have not been able to install the Windows version of the game in WINE 3.0 for Linux in default configuration. Maybe it is just a matter of fine tuning of WINE but I don't see the point to lose my time that way since I already have SimAnt running fine in Basilisk II. Have to clean up my HD, now.

Just an idea about "Any chances we could get...", but we have a lot large CD-ROM images already available here.

In addition to Dualities posting below:
Would be nice to see the Maxis sampler CD here, over all the AOL crap CDs seen over there.

And if so, make it hybrid, s'il vous plaît. Wink

Samplers are fine. I've seen how many AOL CDs the Internet Archive has. No shame in archiving another one!

"Any chances we could get the complete CD-ROM?"

You might be disappointed. It is essentially a HUGE Maxis sampler (283 megs) with an install apps for America Online (4 megs). The only good point: it is a Mac/PC Hybrid disk.

I second that! It would be a great addition to the site. (thanks for uploading, btw!)

I have uploaded the 1996 republished edition of the game mainly because it includes a complete documentation, which worth to be read by its higher than usual scientific and cultural side. Since it has been originally published in E-Doc, a now obsolete format, I have converted the documentation in PDF.

To fully appreciate the richness of the experience, I also suggest you to read "Empire of the Ants", the English translation of the French novel "Les fourmis" by Bernard Werber (1991). And maybe watching the Ant-Man duology after that will not be bad either... Wink

A fine example of sound programming principles, and another title which runs fabulously across decades of Macintosh. Interestingly, you can "extract" the quirky music from this application. If you open it with ResEdit, and peek into the "Midi" resource, you can copy and paste a song into a text processor (BBEdit) and save. Then open it in any MIDI player. Instruments don't exactly match, but you can tell it's the SimAnt theme music.

When I was in seventh grade, if we finished our work early, Mrs. Clayton would let us play SimAnt on the classroom Mac. Yay!
