Reckless Drivin' is a new action game for the Mac. Its gameplay is similar to its predecessor, Burning Rubber, a Mac shareware game I released in 1996. In Burning Rubber one had to drive a car through 2-dimensional levels as fast as possible, leaving as much destruction as possible on the way.
Reckless Drivin' follows the same basic principle, however, it has been completely rewritten from scratch, and it employs a new graphics engine featuring smooth, dynamically zoomed, scrolling 16-bit graphics. The physics simulation has been redesigned to realistically resemble skidding and tire tracks on different road surfaces.
The 1st DL is version 1.2a
The 2nd DL is version 1.4.4
The 3rd DL is version 1.5 (aka 1.5.0)
The 4th DL is version 1.5.4
The 5th DL is the level editor, RDEdit, which was formerly available from the author's site
The 6th DL is some cheat codes
Version 1.4.4 seems to be the latest version not based on OpenGL. Version 1.4.4 (not based on OpenGL) still runs in Rosetta on most recent PowerPC Macintosh models with Mac OS X 10.6 installed, as the author states on JonasEchterhoff.com.
As the latest version of the game, 1.5.4, will no longer run on current graphics cards, and I don’t find the time to fix this, I am now discontinuing selling the game. However, the older, non-OpenGL version 1.4.4 still runs in Rosetta emulation on the newest Macs, and can be downloaded here.

So, I've been messing around with the Mac OS X Public Beta in Qemu and I've been trying to find Reckless Drivin' 1.2a. That was the last version to support the Public Beta.
Information about the 1.2a version can be found on Info-Mac Digest V18 #12.:
The only actual link I could find is this but, not even the Internet Archive has a copy of it. I did manage to find a copy of 1.3 on the Info-Mac archive but, that requires 10.0.2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Currently I'm working on subtitles in English for my Yt upload of "Susie Q - Engel in Pink" (1996, Ganzer Film Deutsch), and at the scene the police man stops the young boy and his sister, she asks "And what is the indictment?", he answers:
"Reckless driving and in your case being a general pain of myself."
("Riskante Fahrweise, und in deinem Fall, dass du mir auf den Keks gehst.")
Replaced dead "Cheats" page link with Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) link to old page.
Checked. I confirm that this link is now dead...
I added v1.5 (aka v1.50) which is what I downloaded way back in the day. And I added the .txt codes for vehicle #s. The "cheat" Link on this page isn't working, if someone else will verify.

Sorry, but I have removed the link to rosetta (a quote was missing too), as Apple has removed the page since a long time ago now...
That's one way to play, although you'll usually miss out on the time bonuses that way ... but it is strangely satisfying (especially in these days of high petrol prices) to stop you car facing a petrol station and then blast it with a missile.
If you want maximum score, then you have to try to avoid hitting anything else or running off the road.

Me too! I got so good at it that I could pretty much keep going forever. One of the few games I am any good at playing.
Can't get it to work on Sheepshaver, crash after main screen.
I replaced the newer version previously uploaded with 1.4.4 now, which is compatible to SheepShaver with Mac OS 8.1 or newer installed (playing this in SheepShaver would need a really fast host computer, though).
I have to duck a bit.
Played this game for years w/o registering it, now the author provides a registering code for free at his website: http://www.jonasechterhoff.com/Reckless_Drivin.html
