Quest for Glory is an adventure game. One of the best games I've played. You can choose to be either a Fighter, Magic User or a Thief.

Compatibility
Architecture: 68k

Also playable in SheepShaver using PowerFPU. A DOS version can be played on Mac OS X using Boxer.

Version 3.0b1

System requirements:

From my experiences:
Will work with MacOS 9 *if* you disable all extensions at boot (hit and hold shift during system startup). I have seen it work on an LC and LCIII - it's slightly slow at the 16Mhz LC speed. Runs great at LCIII speed (25Mhz). Works on 512x364 (12" monitors) and 640x480 monitors (13"). May run in a higher resolution - but not tested.

I hope I'm not out of line by saying this, as it's not really "abandonware," but Quest For Glory I-III works on ScummVM. Just thought I'd let those interested in the series know, it's easy to find.

I used to play this game on my PowerMac 6500/300. However, I just tried to get it to work again, and even downloaded the version from this site. The game starts up fine, but keeps crashing when I try to leave town via the front gate, or occasionally when changing scenes in town.
I've increased the memory to 4000, 8000 and even 16000. Virtual memory is off. I'm using Mac OS 7.6.1. I also Have Mac OS 8.6 installed and have the same problem. I have a Mac OS 8.0 CD lying around. I've tried shift-booting.
Can somebody suggest what to do to get the game to work without crashing? I remember playing this back in the early 2000s on the same computer.
My other working systems are Windows computer, a Windows 98SE machine and a Vista computer. It almost sounds like it would be easier to download the DOS version.

Well, the maximum screen resolution for the game is 640x480. I'd try setting my monitor to that size and launching the game. I just launched the game on my LCIII with 13" monitor and can verify that you can adjust the resolution by choosing Large Window in the option menu (the menu bar shows when you click on the black area where it should usually appear - at the top of the screen. This should give you the best resolution possible.

Does anyone know how to get the in game screen to run on full screen?

You would need to run the emulator in fullscreen.
On real Mac, the only way I see is to reduce screen settings.

It plays great on my mac performa 6116 ppc 60 Mhz, 72 mb ram and mac os 9.0.4. But i have changed the date because of the problem with 'sierra' games. I changed it to 1992 Smile. Great music quality with roland mt-32.

I mean turn it off. Like you used to be able to do in Mac OS 7. The only way I know how to disable VM in OS9 is to have more than 1GB RAM.

Or try playing with mute sound.

Edit: Changed 'xxx 7' to 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User

I don't know, I'm using Chubby Bunny. How would I increase the virtual memory?

Is it because of virtual memory ?

I'm having trouble getting this to run on my G4/466 Digital Audio with 384 MB RAM using OS 9.2.2.

I can download the file, unstuff it, run the install and it seems to work; the installer reports that it installed successfully.

However, the Finder gives me the following message: The application "Quest For Glory Install" has unexpectedly quit, possibly because the the server that connects it has been disconnected".

When I try to run it, the system freezes everything except the mouse. I can force quit it using command-option-esc.

I've tried starting without extensions (holding down the shift key) and I've tried running it a 640x480 with 256 colors but I get the same result.

Any ideas on how to get this to run? Thanks!

I agree. I was very mad when QFG4 was announced for the Mac and never released. I got a DOS compatibility card for my Mac specifically to play it. You can still use your Mac import files in the DOS games. They still work.

This game was a serious delight. My only complaint: How evil of Sierra to make a game that when at the end allows you to save your character for the next installation? Especially when the next installation never was made available to Mac users. Weak...

This a great classic game. However, I found it less of a hassle to run the DOS version on Boxer. (1.25Ghz G4 MacMini/10.4.11)

The top Bittorrent sites have tons of abandonware, too.

When I extract the game, I'm left with a folder "Quest For Glory I" containing the files '1.Pat', '4.Pat', '7.PAT' & 'Data1'. How do I use these files?

I'm using SheepShaver, Mac OS 9, PPC.
