"PixelToy is one of those rare programs that defies easy categorization — it creates unique, vivid special effects which can incorporate animated text, images, sound waves, and more."

Version 1.0 has a cool property that was supposedly unintentional, and is not found in future versions. When a PICT is loaded, future versions determine colours based on the brightness of the individual pixels. In this one, colours displayed are similar to the colours of the pixels in the image, within the currently selected palette. The author was not aware of this behaviour until a few versions ago, and considered it a fluke. However, it appears to always happen.

Version 2.0 adds support for multiple filters to run at the same time, among other things.

The latest version, for OS X, is now free: http://www.lairware.com/pixeltoy/
