Like the previous installment, Myth II is a real-time tactics where players are given a pre-determined selection of units with their own strengths and weakness, without the option to recruit any further units later in battle, emphasizing the strategy aspect of the gameplay.

In both single and multiplayer games, players can utilize units in different way such as combat formations and special abilities and making use of terrain. While some units from the previous Myth retain their special abilities such as the Dwarf satchel charge and Journeyman healing, other past units like the Bowmen are able to fire a secondary fire arrow that can set the targeted area aflame damaging nearby units and can use a knife as a last resort when in close combat. While some other units for both the Light and Dark sides aren’t present in Soulblighter such as the Forest Giants and Myrmidons, new units are made available such Dwarven Mortars and the Myrkridia, previously only mentioned in The Fallen Lords. The previously Dark Trow giants are also made available for use by the Light, being classed as unaligned.

The single player campaign is only playable from the perspective of the Light, through a series of both linear and non-linear laid out levels, with end of level stats and individual unit kill counts and prevalence still present, along with the option to play them cooperatively in multiplayer through online or local network.

Project Magma was given permission from Take2 Interactive to maintain and release future updates to Myth. For the latest updates, mods and extras, go to the Project Magma website. For even more custom content, visit The Tain.

Myth II 1.7.2 is the last version to have Carbonized Fear and Loathing, tools to create mods and new game content. As of Myth II 1.8.x, the game itself will still run on OS 9, but new features are focused on OS X and later; OS 9 is no longer a regularly tested target platform.

TIP: you can play the game's cut scenes without having the disk mounted by copying the "cutscenes" folder off your game disk (or disk image) & placing it in your Myth II folder. Also note that the old Smacker cutscenes aren't supported in the new UB cocoa builds of the game. You must install the QuickTime versions of the cutscenes in order to view them in the UB version.

This game is still has an active multiplayer community, including a yearly tournament (most recent tournament: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKzBa9nBQYo), and there's a community-developed patch, of which new versions are still coming out, that improves the game in a variety of ways and allows you to play it in the most recent version of macOS without needing to use an emulator: http://projectmagma.net/

Also here's the subreddit for the community around the game: https://www.reddit.com/r/myth2/

One of the best games of all time.

It's still played online today, and people are still making plugins.

Yes, I'm afraid it is a DMG file. You're right, DMG is not a good choice for sharing pre-OS X games. Toast files are preferable.

Is this a .dmg file?
'cuz eventhough I found a way to make them work, they're still a pain,
for all the steps I have to do to make them a usable file.

From the original CD (which was dual platform), this can be played all the way back in Mac OS 7.5 with 32MB RAM and a 4x CD-ROM. Min requirements were a 100MHz PowerPC.

The latest patch is v1.7, details here.

Most importantly, this is one of a very, very few select games that scores a perfect 10 on IMG.

Download it, or as it's dual platform, buy it for $2 in a bargain PC games shop.

Edit: Replaced 'xxx 7' by 'Mac OS 7' - IIGS User
