I seem to be having tremendous difficulty getting it to run! It'll sometimes get as far as the opening screen for a few seconds, music and all, and then not only does the GAME crash, my entire emulator just force-quits itself! I have tried both Mac OS 7 on my BasiliskII, and Mac OS 9 on SheepShaver... One thing is I don't have Japanese text installed, because I'm not quite sure how yet... I'm trying to think of any other reasons a game like this would be so difficult to run. Do youu have any ideas? Do you think it's possibly the way you ripped the CD? (That seems unlikely, but.) I can look at all the assets in the game using ResEdit, WOW, does that solve an immense amount of confusing memories of this storybook game. Thank you SO, SO much, again.

HWAH-HWAAHHH--bwabwabwa, it works! It had to rename it to an IMG for it to mount on my actual Mac OS X side, but whether it was labelled as DMG or IMG, it didn't mount in Basilisk or Sheepshaver. I then had to use Disk Utility to convert the open image to a CDR/ISO format instead, then it mounted on Basilisk & Sheepshaver perfectly. I haven't played it yet (waiting until Saturday), but I'm EXTREMELY grateful.

In the past few days, I got a hold of another Himetaro floppy disk through contacting a Japanese Mac history blogger, which I'll probably upload on here soon: https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21AHUELXR7vzYRdQQ&cid=D4EF5DC950A9B6...

I ripped it on Catalina, so I can’t actually open it. You’ll have to do the honors.

WOW. I could NOT be more enthused, thank you for the purchase. I just spent all night trying to find more screenshots of these lost games, and I was lucky enough to find some great new pages on Archive.org:

Everything here is really interesting, too-- it looks like Thoru & Hime sold things together for a while: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.eggegg.co.jp/himetaro/*

And absolutely no problem if you can't find an English version-- I'd be more than appeased with any version I can get.

I'm so hyped, I drew a HyperCard-esque picture of myself and taped it to my screen: http://www.skyetheguy.com/tohimetaroA.JPG

According to https://www.himetaro.net/saito_3/shi_shi.html, it was included on the MacUser Oct 1995 CD. I believe I found a copy on Mercari, so I bought it and I’ll check back after it arrives. I doubt the English version would be on it, but we’ll see.

WOAHNOW. THANK YOU, even though there isn't a non-corrupted version online, that is DEFINITELY the right game. I remember that website VERY distinctly, and I don't know why, on my way to find Thoru Yamamoto, I didn't notice any of the other stack creators listed alongside him. Thank you SO so much, I can't believe after almost two decades, I finally have an answer. I'm going to try to contact Himetaro, fingers crossed.

I wonder if you’re thinking of Himetaro’s “Dream of Last Night”.

It was apparently translated into English, but I haven’t found a playable copy (in either language).

Hey, uh, do you happen to know if this lady ever made a game that was shared on the Internet that involved a little girl and had weird spooky overtones akin to Yume Nikki? https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmyjoystick/comments/f9iwlr/mac_os_7990sear... <-- I've been searching for a childhood game, and this creator ticks a lot of the right boxes.
